Football is an effective and playful instrument to help youth and children understand the importance of life skills to overcome their daily challenges. Moreover, football activities can be used to spread relevant social messages and WorldCoaches can become role models in their own communities.
The WorldCoaches programme focuses on three main themes: personal development, health and social cohesion. Through its activities, WorldCoaches directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are goals which were set by the United Nations and aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
In its broadest sense, we define personal development as the empowerment of children and youth. The WorldCoaches provide a safe and inclusive environment for both boys and girls, where they stimulate learning and self-confidence. These activities contribute directly to quality education (SDG-4) and decent work and economic growth (SDG-8).
Sport is essential for the healthy development of children and youth. Through the contagious enthusiasm and general guidance of WorldCoaches, children learn to adopt healthy habits while playing sports. These healthy habits lead to: (1) improved general health, (2) reduced risks of chronic diseases and, (3) improved mental health levels. As such, WorldCoaches contribute to good health and well-being (SDG-3).
When we play, we meet as equals. WorldCoaches embrace diversity by purposefully gathering children from different backgrounds and fostering interaction. During these interactions, children learn important life skills like empathy and communication, which are essential for cohesive societies. Here, the WorldCoaches programme focuses specifically on stimulating gender equality (SDG-5) and being inclusive towards disadvantaged groups with the aim of reducing inequalities (SDG-10).
