Generative AI Use Policy for the Google Cloud Community



Purpose & Goals:

The primary purpose of this policy for the Google Cloud Community is to empower members to harness genAI for enhanced information access and synthesis, while preventing forums from increasing the occurrence of spam, or unhelpful content, which overall can result in a poor user experience. 

In crafting this policy, the Google Cloud Community moderation team collaborated extensively with Google Cloud, consulted industry experts, and closely reviewed member feedback. As AI-powered assistance becomes increasingly integrated into the way we work and live, we expect the Google Cloud Community forums to evolve to encompass new ways of delivering information, surfacing relevant content, and more.

Guidance & Examples:

Below are guidelines of how we encourage members to leverage genAI in their interactions within the community, as well as examples of misuse that are not permitted  – and how to report potential violations.

It is OK to use genAI to bring your questions and ideas to the forefront.

    • We encourage the responsible and creative use of genAI in alignment with the community guidelines for activities such as language translation, spelling, grammar, syntax review, and synthesizing copy. Additionally, genAI can aid in parsing forums to locate helpful information and reviewing code for accuracy, as well as checking content for accuracy.
    • To learn more about how Google developers are harnessing artificial intelligence and bringing the benefits of AI to everyone, check out ai.google.

    It is NOT OK to over-rely on genAI in ways that lead to generic responses, irrelevant recommendations, and miscommunication. If members plan to use genAI responses in their posts, you should:

      • Use genAI to supplement your posts, and do not use it as a sole author or primary source.
      • Do not use genAI to answer questions or weigh in on topics that are outside of your expertise or experience.

      Examples of misuse of genAI in community forums:

        • Making statements using genAI-sourced information that you do not have direct knowledge of or expertise in, or otherwise misrepresenting your expertise in a topic.
        • Using genAI to generate and post irrelevant, harmful, dangerous or offensive content.

        Violations of this genAI use policy may impact your ability to access and use the forums, including without limitation...

          • Having your posts removed or hidden.
          • Having your ability to post on forums suspended.
          • Losing access to the Google Cloud Community.

          How to Report genAI Misuse:

          If you suspect instances of inappropriate genAI usage, please flag it using the "REPORT SPAM" feature in the community forums.  To flag a post: View the post/reply, click Post Options, click Report Inappropriate Content.
