Tolstoy succeeded in describing and showing us the consequences of the greed of the human being through the story of Pahóm who no longer controlled his obsession with buying lands. Greed blinded his eyes to the point where he was just thinking of ways to get more and more. Two proverbs sum up this short story:
“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
― Socrates
