Then life had no more meaning. Then it would be better to be dead. ”

This time, we discover Bartleby who represents suspense and eccentricity by his rather different and provocative personality. His employer who is the narrator has not ceased to discover and understand the reason for these gestures and words by all means but in vain. Bartleby refuses to perform some tasks requested by the narrator, saying "I would prefer not to". A bizarre and confused attitude leaves us in need of understanding it. It's not just about highlighting Bartleby's attitude, Melville also shows the transformation, emotions and actions of the narrator vis-à-vis this character so mysterious....more

Greed blinded his eyes to the point where he was just thinking of ways to get more and more. Two proverbs sum up this short story: “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.” ― Mahatma Gandhi “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.” ― Socrates ...more
“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.” ― Oscar Wilde, De Profun“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.” ― Oscar Wilde, De Profundis This proverb presents exactly one of the main ideas in this short story by Chekhov. Olenka, during all her life, only repeats the points of view of the men she has met. She never manages to build her opinion on her own. It is difficult, in his case to have a strong personality who will later help him to face the obstacles of life.

"She repeated the veterinary surgeon's words, and was of the same opinion as him about everything." The void also plays an element of unhappiness in the life of Olenka, especially when the veterinarian, his third companion left to settle in another city. We must not link our happiness with others, we must manage to create our own world and try to do what we like without always being attached to others. ...more

"The Death of a Government Clerk" is a short humorous story by Anton Chekhov. Chekhov wanted to highlight in a short and funny way, the situation of a Government clerk who kept apologizing to his superior because he coughed in front of him. He repeatedly asked for forgiveness to the point where the chief thought he was making fun of him.
A way of saying that hierarchical reports should have no effect on the personality and behavior of people. Dignity and human values are at the top of all relationships.
