Third Reread: Still enjoyable... but I fast forwarded all the love/sex bits. That part is boring the third time around. I’m more interested in the vertical happenings. And when will River be part of the story again?
Second reread: I thought Max and Sophie happened a little quickly and without foundation but once that train started I felt no need to get off. Nikita and Kaleb's characters are fleshed out and the PsyNet itself becomes a character. I had completely forgotten about River but I hope to see him again soon. It was also nice to see the changelings from the outside.

"I want to be alone . . . said no bear ever."
Singh has managed to insert laugh out loud humor into her formulaic gold standard of paranormal romance. And the sexy time was particularly sexy.
I am enamored of the StoneWalkers and want to read about all the medvezhonoks. [image] Who? Us? Yes you! I want a book on every bear and every tiny gangster that grows up.

Nalini Singh! How do you do this to me again and again? I was late to dinner because I was crying over Katya's last few hours and lost track of time. I don't know how I forgot about this gem but Katya and Devraj are now one of my favorite couples.

As far as our main couple go dear Dorian truly needed Ashaya in every way. She made him confront his hate and his pain. She came with more baggage than any romantic lead female in the Singh universe, but again, it was exactly what Dorian needed....more

This was the story of Kirby who lost her family in a fire when she was just a baby and had to grow up in the foster care system. Then she meets Sebastian from Dark River and cue the sexy fun happy ending.
But it's when Kirby meets her grandparents that have been looking for her all their lives that I teared up because it got me [image]
I loved this short story. I hope these two don't disappear the way Clay and Talin have. A must read for Singh fans.

Nalini Singh never (ok rarely) fails to completely uplift me with her books. I'm reading eleven other books at the moment and they have all hit depressing: political kidnapping, PTSD suicide, endless meaningless war against ninja turtles, endless horrific war against machines, endless war against ancient evil, demonic doppelgänger takeover, unrepentant spousal abandonment, rubber plantation holocaust - even my Hawaii travel guide has turned into a leper story. [image]
Come to think of it, i need one more Singh reread before I dive back into that damn sinkhole.
Reread Update: For similar reasons I need more Singh, too many dark books at once. This time I listened to the audio. Angela Dawe is no Justine Eyre but I got use to her strange emphatic monotone voice....more

Living in Texas I just don't appreciate the scenery as much as I should. That this novel takes place in New Mexico makes no nevermind, this is a cowboy western romance done with all of Linda Howard's appeal. This is her rough early work and it's still enjoyable.
Whether the setting is a flower shop in Tehran or a used tire outlet in Butte, Montana Linda Howard could write a romantic suspense novel around it. The woman has no weaknesses....more

I liked her style of mixing scifi, intrigue, action, strong women, romance, and sex. It's what I would label a paranormal romance with extended sexy time. This is the first contemporary romance I've read of hers and I would classify it as erotica light.
The story is of two bookish people, in good shape, with some issues who are attracted to each other - but always hovering. Anyone with esteem issues can relate to the extended cautionary hover period. In their case it has gone on way too long, and likely nothing would have ever happened, when Glenna has a life changing event. Her great grandmother, and namesake, dies leaving Glenna last words of encouragement towards a more adventurous life.
At the funeral Glenna discovers a set of note cards with thirty days of naughty, and escalating, sexy fun. Playing out the cards becomes the excuse Glenna and Eric need to find each other.
There are no guns, serial killers, space aliens, psychic powers, werewolves, vampires, or horny Bigfoots. It's not even particularly kinky, with the exception of a banana trick I had never heard of and now want to try. [image] Hat tip Ms. D'Abo.
This is just two ordinary people getting out of their heads and into each other. It was sweet. Basically a three star romance but I'm giving it another star for the banana, lol!...more

Lydia scales a six foot fence in heels and wedding dress to get the hell away. It could have ten feet with barbed wire and I still would have found a way under the circumstances. An open window lets her fall into the neighbors bathtub where she finally breaks down and sobs. An hour later when Vaughn goes for a shower he gets the shock of his life.
This is a crazy way to meet unless you are in a romance novel in which case it's pretty average. Normally the man would be well off, lonely, and fall madly in love with some personality quirk or honorable characteristic of our fair heroine that the supermodels he's been dating lack. Not this story! Vaughn is real man with real issues that are every bit as emotionally draining as Lydia's. Yet he still manages to be kind, helpful, fun, and epically hot. All the characters are "real" in this sense. That is to say they are very attractive interesting people going through real financial/relationship issues. But none of it is either depressing or boring. I really hate depressing romance novels (Hold Me Close, I'm looking at you).
I got sucked into this book and read it well into the night. I will definitely read the upcoming series and would like to check out more by this author. Thank you NetGalley!!!...more

"My magic could be feather or whip, and I really didn’t care..."
Ahmed is my favorite series character so I was thrilled when he was featured with a woman every bit his age and nearly as powerful. Tuli was a princess given as gift to Ahmed's fathers court thousands of years ago. Sargon was a vicious ruler and, after banishing Ahmed, Tuli eventually joined Wolven, Sazi Police, as a spy-in-place. Now, after the death of Sargon, the plans he set in motion could still be the end of the Sazi. Neither Tuli nor Ahmed knows precisely whom the other is working for so there is a push/pull to their relationship of lust verses trust. They are also snake shifters and that is just sexy - think about it. Toni and Sue, the mob, and your favorite Sazi are also all in the book.
Not to be a nit picker but this book sets up some serious series timeline mistakes. In the last book we learned the conflict between Ahmed and Josette happened in early America about the time she met Richard. When Ahmed tells the story to Tuli he says Sargon banished him because of the little bobcats (Josette) refusal to marry him and it was a thousand years before he spoke to his father again. See the problem? I don't really care. More Ahmed!!!...more

I love how steeped the book is in Texas and Tejano culture. The novel uses Tejano as a term for those who colonized Texas when it was part of Mexico and then stayed on after Santa Anna's defeat. Now it means anything from a particular music (not just Selena) to a Spanish speaking person in south Texas. But from the pecans, to the weather, to the Quinceañera, this book hits its setting dead on. New and familiar characters are set against new and familiar villains alongside a hot tale of two cops falling in love. Lol, truthfully I skip the "hot" parts on reread. These are not my favorite graphic love scenes. If you are looking for PNR/erotica light set in south Texas this book is good enough as a stand alone. Fiesta everyone!!! [image]...more

There's magic and shape shifting, mystery, romance, action, and a good deal of cleverness. Tony, ex mob assassin, is the antihero you follow along into the world of the Sazi, an ancient race of predatory shapeshifters. What I love is the breadth of character introduction, every single one memorable. Many successful PNR series follow the same character unfailingly, I'm usually sick of her (it's usually a her) by the fourth book. I much prefer proper world building that lets several characters shine. If you like PNR I highly recommend this series....more

The romance was so good I cried. Real tears over two characters I met over scarcely a hundred pages. Amazing.
What wasn't good: The secondary flashback "romance." Whenever the white married aristocrat tells the half native girl he's really just engaged you know that story is going to suck. Also all of the twists and turns reach more than less predictable conclusions.
I don't care. I just tinder swiped that stuff for more Lilly and Gabriel. That the author is German just crushed every cold stereotype I unworthily had. I immediately looked for more books by this author but they are all in German! No!!! Someone translate them immediately!
I've read so many romance novels but Lilly and Gabriel hit just the right balance, just the right note, to fill me with that brilliant rush of vicarious true love. Thank you Corina Bomann.
