Bad Girls Don't Die #3

As Dead As It Gets

Rate this book
It's been three months since Alexis helplessly witnessed Lydia Small's violent death, and all she wants is for her life to return to normal.

But normal people don't see decaying bodies haunting photographs. Normal people don't have to deal with regular intrusions from Lydia's angry ghost, sometimes escalating to terrifying attacks.

At first, it seems that Lydia wants revenge on Alexis alone. But a girl from school disappears one night, and Alexis spots one of Lydia's signature yellow roses lying on the girl's dresser the next day. Soon, it becomes clear that several of Alexis's friends are in danger, and that she's the only person who can save them. But as she tries to intervene, Alexis realizes that her enemy is a much more powerful ghost than she's ever faced before . . . and that its fate is tied to hers in ways she couldn't possibly imagine.

Not even in her worst nightmares.

Magnificent! Outstanding! Devastating (in a good emotional way)

If this is the end of the trilogy, then I know I'm going to miss it. I'll miss Lexi. I'll miss Carter. I'll miss Megan. I'll miss Kasey. I'll miss Lydia.
Katie has grown so much through the three books.
The first was normal, the second was incredible and this one was UNFORGETTABLE!

Here is a quote that gives me chills and reveals how far Lexi has grown:

"I've been bad.
I've been good.
Weak and strong.
Brave and afraid." (page 441)

There is a last line in this brilliant statement, but that line is a spoiler. You must read this book!
Lexi is one of the most amazing flawed but courageous protagonists I have ever met.

Just as the first two books im this trilogy I absolutely loved this book as well. I don't want to say to much about it as this is the last one, but I will say that Alexis is definitely in for a wild ride and I was not expecting what happens. Such a great trilogy, I just wish there were more because I absolutely love these characters.

_______________________

I love this series so friggin' much.

It may not top my list of most favorite YA ghost series of all time, but it's pretty damn close. These books were so easy to devour, and I didn't waste any time in reading them all, even if I've been a little lazy and slow on my reading. The books in this series just have that "I'll-pull-you-in-and-won't-let-go" feel, so I just can't help but read more and more.

This book starts off quite some time after the wild ride that was From Bad to Cursed, and we Alexis can now actually see ghosts (due to what happened near the end in the previous book) and has been haunted and tormented constantly by Lydia's ghost. We soon find out that Lydia isn't just after Alexis, but the other girls that were in the Sunshine Club, and one by one the girls start disappearing, and a signature yellow rose is always at the scene. Alexis will do whatever it takes to stop Lydia, until we soon find out that Lydia isn't the one responsible, and the enemy that Alexis has to face is much, much more powerful than anything she's ever faced before.

I love that there's always a different ghost in every book, with a different story. This one, however, is especially different. And a lot more scarier. I can't tell you anything about this new ghost, though, because that would spoil it, but prepared to be scared, cause this one really is different than the spirits we've seen before.

Just like in the previous two books, there were many chilling scenes here, and of course, I have one in particular that is my favorite, and the scene that really gave me goosebumps, and will probably give me nightmares tonight.

My suspicions from the previous book were correct: Jared is the new love interest. Right off the bat, in the second chapter, we see some chemistry between these two, but I of course automatically thought "Oh, he's just one of those replacement guys in YA books. It won't last." Predictably, it didn't last. Don't worry, I'm sure that isn't a spoiler for any of you. xD You would immediately assume that anyway, right? YA does it all the time.

Anyways, as for Carter, I never thought he was the type to go out with another girl right away. But yeah, we got to see some of the "Other Girl" in the previous book, and we get to see a lot more of her in this one. With purple hair, ironically. I can see why Carter went for her after that. So yeah, there's a lot of scenes where we see them together and all and blah blah blah.

Oh and predictably, Carter eventually gets jealous of Alexis and Jared being together, but also─predictably─he still stays with Zoe anyway. Yeah, I definitely like Carter a lot less in this book. But that didn't make me like Jared any better either. He plays a huge part in the story, trust me, and let's just say he's a little . . . cuckoo, to put it lightly.

I loved Lydia in this book. :D As a ghost, she's not her creepy Sunshine Club self anymore, thank God. She's back to being the old, sarcastic Lydia from the first book. I can't really say much about her without giving away spoilers, though, but I did love her a lot.

I would've liked if the ending were a little more climactic, I guess, since this is the final book and all. I wish it'd ended with a huge bang that made my brains fly off and splatter all over the walls and the floor. Don't get me wrong, I still loved this book, but to be completely honest, I still prefer the previous two over it. I just think they're so much better.

I also think that this series could continue, because I want more. D: Or if not, how cool would it be if it had a spin-off? Starring Kasey or Megan, maybe? Cause I'm really sad that this series is only a trilogy. I would love to see more.

Anyways, yeah, that's basically it. I feel all empty now that this series is over so soon. :c It was absolutely awesome, and if you haven't read it, then I'm telling you right now, go buy it as soon as you can. You won't regret it, I swear. I'll even fully take the blame if you end up not liking it. :D

Third and final book of the series and hard to review without spoilers of the series. After getting rid of Alart and watching Lydia Small die in front of her, Alexis can now see ghosts especially through her photography. Lydia is now haunting Alexis and again strange things start to happen when girls, Alexis knew are starting to disappear and are getting hurt or killed. Alexis thinks Lydia is behind the attacks, especially when she thinks Lydia’s bright light leads them to her and the ghost of the girl always seems to be there.

Soon Alexis realizes that this new ghost she is facing is much more stronger and powerful than before and she is going to rely on herself and an unlikely ally to put a stop to that.

This was kind of dark, a bit darker than the first two books and there is a death in this book that really brought tears to my eyes because I wasn’t expecting it. The story is well told, well written and kept me turning the pages. I read this in the middle of the night and despite the fact that it was super creepy, I could not put this one down. I think of the three I did find this one to be the strongest and one of my favorites.

As dead as it gets
Sob sob omg this book is finished already??? I love the whole entire series I loved the ending and cried a few too.
Alexis = this girl I will be missing her soo much, I always love how fierce she is and IMF lad in this book we can see her vulnerable side. I love the relationship with Lydia I'm this book, the conversation touched me alot. And she is finally back with carter yes!!!
Jared = this guy I was always shady with him and turns out I am right, I liked his soft words with Alexis but I always thought he is very very controlling turns out I was right and he has a evil scheme along with him.
Kasey = aww my sweet little sister, I always adore her and Alexis relationship it is always beautiful. They are sisters that stick together and in as dead as it gets the bond is tighter and I love how kasey saids she doesn't want to be normal.
Lydia = soo many conflicts with her but at the end I loved her, she is a good ghost she helped Lexi soo much and is there for her I grown to love her.
Carter = the sweet carter I'm glad he broke up with Zoe lol he totally belongs with Lexi. He is soo sweet And caring and always been there for her.
Fav quote = she raised her eyebrows and gave me an angry look. "You think I want to just live a clueless, stupid life while you're out there suffering? Are you out of your mind?" "Possibly," I said. " believe me, I've considered it." She pulled me down and wrapped her arm around me. Resting her head on my shoulder, " I can't be happy if you aren't happy. I'm not going to let you sacrifice yourself for me."
Now that is why totally make me cry and the ending was wrapped up beautifully this will be a series I will always remember.

Finally! I know I said I'm not that excited to read this book, but I'm glad I still did. This is better than the second book and way creepier. At least Alexis wasn't thinking about just herself here. She's still mopey but it's tolerable. Anyway I'll miss her and the other characters especially Carter. I really like him. I just wish there were more of him here. I don't know that much about him . It would be really cool to find out about him because well, after all the things that happened he's still there along with Megan. I love them both. And well, I also like Jared but only from the previous book. It's just sad to know who he really is. *sighs*

This got me really thinking even from the start. I can't actually put this down until I find out everything. There were things that were quite unexpected. This is a really good way to end the trilogy!

Over-all this is creepy and twisted but in a good way. Just really great!! :)

Imma say 3.5
The first half was meant to be exciting but I just wasn't really roped in. I wasn't too interested.

The second half was way better.

Okay LOVE Lydia! Who knew she could be so awesome, even as a ghost? But she isn't our evil ghost. I totally fell for that one.
Haha nope! Our ghost isn't actually a ghost. It's a poltergeist, and evil spirit type thing that was sprung from Jared's seriously depressed thoughts. Why? Because it's a poltergeist of his girlfriend, Laina. But they were so in love they considered each other soulmates. But she fell of a cliff while hiking and died So when she died he was all "build a shrine" and "try to fill the whole in my heart with someone else", hence Alexis. Basically this poltergeist wants Jared to have his new "soulmate" Alexis, so the abomination tried to kill anyone who got in their way. I say "try" because two attempts were unsuccessful. The first girl was saved but went into a coma. The second and third died. The fourth was Alexis' sister, but was able to kill Jared (it had to be done to get rid of the poltergeist since it came from him) before Kasey was killed.
So what's the difference between a poltergeist and a ghost? Well, good question thee who readeth this review!
Laina broke a lot of her bones when she fell, so she was all weird angles. That's it.
The poltergeist? Freaky as hell!
..her body crooked and broken, arms askew and neck bent to a horrific angle....and then--she turned her head....Except she didn't have eyes....just dark sunken patched of smooth skin....where her hair and skin met, the skin was beginning to shrivel, raisinlike, and was laced with a thin layer of black..she was smiling, revealing a mouth of blackened teeth, sharpened to points. Her gums were gray and decaying.

How about it? Scary right? And that's not all. Alexis can only see her in photographs, and in those photographs, the poltergeist moves like in Harry Potter, but in real time. Like if the poltergeist is approaching her in real life, Alexis will see her doing it in the picture. Also the poltergeist was watching her sleep at night...in her room!

Alright so...it doesn't bother Jared that his dead girlfriend/soulmate is one freaky-ass ghost who is killing people to he can stay with Alexis? Yeah that's not selfish or anything!
And he wants to drag Alexis to her death with him. "Let's jump off this cliff because me and my poltergeist girlfriend think it's a good idea."
YEAH RIGHT IDIOT! BEING DEAD DOES NOT MEAN YOU GET TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER! phew! Man it's so frustrating when characters are complete dumb-asses!

Still prefer Carter. Thank God that worked out!
Except for Alexis being accused of murdering Jared.....but who's keeping track?

Anyways. It was overall a fairly decent book. I will be reading more of Katie Alender's books in the future!

For this whole series. I enjoyed them, but not as much as I thought I would. This one went a bit off track from the other 2 books and it seemed to be left open-ended. I'm glad to be done with the series though. In general I like ghost stories, but some this last book felt more thriller/horror.

Let me tell it to you straight: this book was amazing. It sucks you into this unknown world, once you start, you can't stop; it's almost an addiction to read. The drama and topsey-turvsey moods in this book just adds to the suspense.
Alexis is one of the most diverse characters I've ever seen; she just amazes me by her ability to see ghosts and communicate with them. Katie Alender tells the story of Alexis' messed up life perfectly and you can totally imagine the pain, and loneliness or the excitement and joy of this book. You get the feeling that it's so real, your skin crawls. It's a good kind of creepy with a little bit of sass and fiery tension. It gets emotions flowing in your mind that are so indescribable or spectacular, you question your own friends. It was truly an honor to read this book.
I was transfered into a new world, this book can truly amaze you with the outcomes and happenings. (like Kendra, Ashleen, almost Alexis, etc.) It was an amazing experience to see Megan, Jared, and Alexis' little sister Kasey (etc.) transform and see how people can actually understand you better than you can. awesome book!

I couldn't put this book down. I wish I could write a full-on review but I have school so this is a rushed review. But honestly, this is just... such a beautiful piece of writing. So much better than the first and second novels. I've waited MONTHS to get my hands on this and book 2 and it was well-worth the wait. I'm sobbing right now bc BEAUTIFUL.

Reposting review.

Am I the only one who disliked this book, in contrast to the other two? It was underwhelming, chaotic and all over the place.

As Dead as It Gets takes place right after the events of book 2. Alexis Warren can now see dead people, including Lydia Small (who had died three months ago, in the second book). This causes her to give up her hobby of taking photos as she continues to be spooked and haunted by ghosts.

Now that Carter Blume has broken up with her and has started dating some girl on the student counsel, Alexis has moved on and started dating Jared (in my opinion, Jared was really sweet and lovable character in the last book), while still pining for Carter. [Honestly, I think the author should have avoided this because it's clear that their break up was just so that the author could have some relationship angst]/

Girls are disappearing and two of them have been found dead. Every time a girl disappears, Alexis keeps on finding yellow roses.

What I really enjoyed in the past two books have been Alexis' dynamic relationship with her sister Kasey, her love interest Carter, and her best friend, Megan Wiley.

In this book, we get to see none of that.

Megan's and Alexis' relationship is strained due to Megan's wanting to not be associated with the paranormals anymore. She evens gives Alexis an ultimatum when it comes to their friendship: to give up the paranormals and come to her seminars (full of people from cult worshipers to other random extents) held by a man hellbent on preaching people to give up their ways.
Megan was an amazing character in the first book, and while she wasn't as involved in the second, I had hoped that she'd at least be a pivotal character in the third book (since things have returned to normal after the events of the second book). It didn't.

Carter had decided to take a break from Alexis in the second book, and has moved on. Although every scene between Alexis and Carter has Carter running to Alexis and it shows that he's clearly not over her, they refused to act their age and be mature about how to handle their relationship. It's silly how Carter quickly "jumped" onto another girl, when all he really had to do in the first place was talk it out with Alexis. Perhaps then, they wouldn't have had all the trivial angst where the two pined for each other, while still attached to two different people.

Kasey has grown up a lot and becomes mature, pretty, and popular. I thought she'd at least be understanding towards Alexis when it comes to the supernatural and paranormal, which she is to a certain degree, but she's rarely involved at all in the storyline.

In this book, we're also introduced to new characters, such as Elliot. Elliot was an amazing character.
We also get to see Jared more fleshed out from the previous book. (In the end, I was really sad to see how quickly his character development derailed. (He ended up being a nutcase).

The romance in this book was lackluster and weak (compared to the first book), and the plot itself was too chaotic: too many people getting killed, too many plots happening at once (and how the author tries to make it coincide together), Alexis being the scapegoat for so many bad things and actually accepting it, lack of the amazing characters/friendships that made me fall in love with the first book and etc made this book less compelling.

In the end, it was very bittersweet. Not the ending I was hoping for, not a bad one either.

This series has been a solid ‘hit’ from Book One, and each and every step of the way seems to get better and better.

With this newest tale, we are right back with the ‘girls’ who - once upon a time - decided to use a bit of magic and power in order to become part of the ‘in’ crowd. Alexis is the one who readers are focused on, as she tries to deal with the fact that she witnessed Lydia Small’s death at the hands of some truly supernatural powers. Although most people believe that Alexis was actually a killer in this scenario, the truth is far worse.

Not only is Alexis being stalked by Lydia’s ghost, she is also seeing yellow roses appear - Lydia’s signature flower - to let Alexis know that she’s planning her revenge. Girls are soon disappearing, with rose left behind for others to find, but is Lydia the mastermind behind everything?

Not only must Alexis find a way to watch over her little sister, but she also faces falling in love (on the rebound) with a boy who is most definitely not what he seems to be. Add in the fact that Alexis can no longer even pick up her beloved camera because of all the rotting and decaying bodies she now sees appearing in the lens - and you have a girl who must remain super strong in order to find and solve the mystery of a murderer who could be either dead…or alive.

From word one, the reader will be hooked. It’s so good, in fact, readers should head back to the beginning of this series in order to not miss a single minute of the ‘magic’ that brought Alexis and her friends to this point in time. Best part? This series isn’t over. Although some things are solved, there are still many characters - as well as an odd Agent - who Alexis still has scurrying around in her life. It will be a true joy to watch this whole thing play out

Note that this is 3.5 stars.

Reason being...i loved this book. I was kind of sad that What did annoy me though was the fact that Alexis was pretty much alone. She had no one. I had gotten used to her having her sister or her best friend...someone. But it got kind of annoying that the only person Lexis could rely on was Lexis. I loved Elliots character and i...well i loved her put it like that.
Good things about this book were...I loved who the "ghost" turned out to be. I didn't see that coming. And it was definitely creepy. THE BOOK WAS ENTIRELY TOO SHORT THOUGH; or maybe i was just that into it :)

Anyways its a good read...it just (in my opinion) didnt hit the spot as well as book 1 and 2 did, but still deserves recognition.

Just AMAZING!
One of the best book I've ever read. One of my favorite book now. It just sad that this is the last book.
Okay. This is only a quick review of this book. I didn't expect that Alexis and Jared will be together. I thought she and carter will be together again after the incident. But i was wrong. He moved on with Zoe. But all i know is he still love Alexis and Lexi still love Carter. Just too complicated to be together again because of Zoe and Jared. And now we know how complicated her life is, here comes the ghost thing. Alexis seeing Lydia's ghost. At first i thought Lydia's the main reason of Alexis accidents. And here comes the ghost thing of Laina(dead gf of jared or i must say dead ex-gf of jared), killing innocent girls and the reason for all i know happening in lexi's life. But all we know, its Jared. He's the one to blame and the KISS. Yes the KISS. The kiss he and Alexis shared. Well its not meant to be kiss if you what i mean. But whatever! Okay and now Alexis sisters gone, Alexis gone to Harmony Valley(yes a mental institution), Going out in the Harmony valley with carter's help and megan AND lydia help and megan friend's help, Jared and Alexis confrontation, Jared's dead, problem solved, and alexis going back to school. Too complicated right? Well, just read the book i think, hehe. All in all the book was great!

I absolutely loved this series when I really wasn't expecting to. I got into these books because I'd never really read anything paranormal. Mostly because, I happen to be a big wimp.

The final book was my favorite by far, I never wanted to stop reading it. I was annoyed every time I had to stop. It was the first time in a while it was a real page turner. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. I even found myself thinking about it throughout my normal work day trying to decipher what exactly was happening. In short, this book took over my life for a little less than a week.

I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys YA but has not read anything spooky/paranormal before. It's really not too scary, the first one is the scariest in my opinion. The two final books have a lot more mystery and suspense.

This book was way better than the other ones. I found the story way more interesting and actually more of a horror story. These books could have been left more as standalone books, but they did work together as a series. This book was about Alexis overcoming the death of Lydia and while this is happening there are death's of other girls happening. Alexis believes it's Lydia who is behind these deaths, but then she learns there is someone else...
The Bad
I can't really say what there was bad about this book because it was extremely better than the other 2 books in the series.
The Good
The plot was extremely enjoyable and I listened to the audiobook which was extremely nice. I loved how the plot twisted towards the ending with
Overall
This is an example of why I read the entire series, even if I don't like the first book. The first book may not be the best, but you have the rest of the series that could get better. Life is short and there are too many books, so make the most out of all of them. I'm happy I'm done with this series and I won't be re-reading them just because they are for the younger young adult ages. I don't think I would find them as enjoyable the second time around.

So I just finished this book, and I was amazed by it, I didn't think it would be that good, on the account of it being the third book in the series, but by God it was. I now agree with the other reviewers that this was way better than the second, and I like the second one as well. I have yet to feel this way about any other book, but it truly felt like I was growing up with the Lexi (the main character), and it is very sad for me that this story has ended. I was starting to feel like Lexi was a real person, who was my friend; and I am so sorry to see her go, with all her ghost as well. But I did learn a few life lessons through this book, and for that reason alone I would recommend this brilliant novel.

The third book in the Bad Girls Don't Die series, author Katie Alender continues to tell the story of Alexis Warren, a teenage girl who has been targeted by numerous ghosts. Recently including Lydia Small, a girl whose tragic, savage death was witnessed by Alexis three months prior. Soon girls go missing, with evidence left behind pointing towards Lydia's ghost being to blame. In addition to seeing ghosts in photographs, Alexis is the only one who can save the girls. Katie Alender has a fantastic point of view on supernatural fiction, and I strongly reccomend to readers who love a good book that scares you into sleeping with the lights on. The story takes place in a place called Surrey, during the present day. I rated this book 4/5 stars.

I have just put down the book and I'm feeling very grateful, that I've had the privilege of reading all 3 books back to back, they're not only great in all aspects, ghostly or humanly, they're super fantastic! Books 1&2 were more serious for me, in a good way. And very creepy. Very real and chilling.. In this last book, even more terrifying, but you get humor and some very funny dialogues as well amidst all the "ghostly" tension and drama.. Perfect!

The book wrapped up beautifully, I could only wish that there'd be a spin off to the series, would love to know what happens to everyone after then, ESP Lydia. She has been my favorite in this book.

Such an awesome experience with this series, I highly recommend it!

Rarely do I ever read a series where the final book is as good as the others. And even more rarely do I ever read a series where the final book surpasses the others in terms of sheer brilliance. As Dead As It Gets was one of these rare cases. It is truly amazing and Alender really outdid herself with this book. I couldn't put it down for more than a few moments and in those moments, I couldn't help but wonder what would come next. Some parts were truly terrifying and others were completely shocking and kept me on the edge of my chair. This author really knows how to weave a tale that will grab you by the throat and keep you guessing until the end.

Although I wish they could have mentioned Megan at the very end. Nonetheless, I really liked the multiple plot twists and how Lexi grew. I loved how she finally acknowledged who she is and how that plays a role. The last chapter was quite sweet, even if it does not appear as so.

I really want to read other books from Katie Alender in the future! Her writing might seem simple at first, but her plots find a way to amaze me and to get me hooked to the characters : how they feel, what they need. I found myself more than once wanting to hug Lexi and tell her that she was braver and stronger than she thought. I am very happy that Alender gave us that.

Cover Impressions: So much cover love. Even before reading the book I was a big fan of the creep factor behind each of the Bad Girls Don't Die covers. After reading, I am happy to note that every detail included in this cover, from the dress to the flowers, is reflective of the story. The color scheme features the prettiest lavender and makes me want to blow it up and frame it.

The Gist: Alexis and ghosts go way back. She has successfully thwarted both a possessed doll and a demon seeking poise, perfection and death. These encounters have left her with the ability to see ghosts through the lens of a camera and stripped her of her best friend, her boyfriend and now the one thing that was keeping her sane; her photography.

Review: I have been waiting for this finale for a very long time. I had high hopes of growth for Alexis and some truly scary moments for myself. I was not disappointed on either point.

The fact that Alexis only sees ghosts (other than Lydia) in pictures and on film is a really neat twist. Especially being faced with them in magazines and textbooks. It makes me think about how often we look at photographs and video in our everyday lives. For Alexis, this twist seems to take away the one constant in her life – her photography. At this point, she has lost Megan, Carter and now her one refuge. It makes for a bleak start to the novel but I think Alexis needed to be broken down and stripped of her safety blankets so that she could grow into a better person.

This plot twist also creates some truly terrifying moments. Imagine shooting pictures in the dark that show a gruesome specter standing right in front of you, but not being able to actually see the creature with your own eyes. It adds an extra element of terror to the novel's ghostly encounters. This time around, the ghosts are incredibly intense and terrifically terrifying. This is not one to read while home alone. Or perhaps it is the perfect book for that.

Alexis continues to struggle with her character flaws but growth is on the horizon, I promise! I know some readers are annoyed by characters who take too long to start behaving in a manner that we see fitting, but I believe Alender has portrayed an accurate representation of the effort and emotion that goes into seeing one's flaws and attempting to fix them. That said, I was very happy when Alexis finally begins to trust other people and, eventually, herself. And then there is Lydia. Despite her trying to kill all the member of the Sunshine club in From Bad to Cursed, I always liked Lydia. I was very happy to see her return and even more happy to see her role advance from background lurker to strong supporting character. Lydia has a way with snarky remarks and reminds me that even the prickliest of teenagers can be hiding a real strength of character beneath.

Katie Alender manages to create a plot with an exciting blend of low build and high action. Chilling moments are interspersed with emotional breakdowns and relationship building. The intricacies of the story are slowly revealed and begin to knit together to create an ending that incredibly satisfying for those of us who have read and loved this series and these characters (even Alexis). I am sad to see it end, but happy that it did so on a high note. I cannot wait to see will flow from Mrs. Alender's pen next.
