Royal Family LIVE: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘rebuffed’ by palace after bombshell
It has been claimed the late Queen Elizabeth II was incredibly angry about how Harry and Meghan handled the situation around their daughter's name.
Schofield says Meghan and Harry 'villainised' Royal Family
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were reportedly “brutally rebuffed” by Buckingham Palace when trying to get some backing for their version of events when a row broke out over the naming of their daughter. The couple have said they would not have named their daughter Princess Lillibet, the name given to the late Queen by close friends and family, if the monarch had not approved first.
The couple have hit back against claims that they didn’t ask for permission from the Queen before naming their daughter. The MailOnline has reported that they asked their lawyers to write to the press and say claims she hadn’t given permission were not true.
However, it is now being alleged that when Harry and Meghan went to the Palace and asked them to back up their version of events, they were rebuffed.
Speaking about the issue, Richard Fitzwilliams told the Mail that one historian “quotes a member of the Queen’s staff saying she was 'as angry as I’ve ever seen her' at the way in which Harry and Meghan handled this”.
He added: “Lilibet was the charming and deeply personal childhood nickname which was only used by the Queen’s close family and her intimates. For the Sussexes to co-opt it in this way and then say it was with her blessing, was despicable.”

Meghan Markle 'copyrighted' Lilibet's name 'before she even gave birth', expert claims
Meghan Markle "copyrighted" the name Lilibet before giving birth to her daughter, a royal expert has claimed.
They also blasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after a new royal book alleged that the late Queen Elizabeth was left furious following their claim she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter Lilibet.
Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story by Robert Hardman, segments of which have been serialised by the Daily Mail, read: "One [aide] privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been 'as angry as I'd ever seen her' in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter 'Lilibet', the Queen's childhood nickname."
Now royal biographer Angela Levin blasted the couple over leaving the late Queen 'furious' and called their actions "appalling".
She told GB News: "That's an incredibly sad comment, I think one of the reasons she felt that way was because it was discovered that Megan, even before Lilibet was born, had taken out the names officially so that she could use them to buy things and to identify them.
Presenter Eamonn Holmes asked: "What do you mean? They'd copyrighted the name?"
Levin replied: "Yes. Before she had Lilibet, I think that was awful for the Queen because she gets drawn into owning organisations due to the name being so unique."
King Charles may be modern but he will never abdicate the throne due to four key factors
King Charles is facing speculation that he might decide to abdicate in favour of his son, having watched Denmark’s Queen Margrethe do so this weekend.
The 83-year-old Danish royal announced her intention to step down in her New Year’s Eve address after 52 years on the throne, stating that her recent back surgery at the start of 2023 contributed to her decision.
"The surgery naturally gave rise to thinking about the future - whether the time had come to leave the responsibility to the next generation,” she said.
Margrethe’s decision is typical of the royal houses of Denmark, Sweden and Norway - who have earned the nickname of “bicycling monarchies" - and now many have been left asking if the British Royal Family could ever follow suit, especially considering King Charles is 75.
But for the King, it is important to remember that he has waited his whole life to become monarch. He was the longest heir-apparent ever, having waited 70 years and 214 days to ascend the throne. As a result, he is unlikely to step down after a few short years.
Not only would Charles be breaking God’s will and going against everything his mother believed in if he abdicated, he would also be saying goodbye to a job he has spent decades preparing for. These three reasons, as well as the scarring from the 1936 abdication crisis, are key to why the King will never step down from the throne.

Queen Elizabeth's inappropriate question to Boris Johnson after he admitted weird dream
Queen Elizabeth once threw one of her impeccably witty lines to former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson a new royal book has revealed.
The late monarch was known for her one-liners and Mr Johnson got to experience that during one of their meeting when he was in office.
According to Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story by Robert Hardman, Mr Johnson had told Elizabeth how he had been troubled by a dream in which he was late for an audience with her.
Elizabeth replied: "Were you naked?!"
Hardman wrote: "She had heard it all before.
"The [late] Queen had seen enough 'yes men' come and go and he wasn't one of those,' says one who saw them both close at hand."
Prince Harry warned against following 'poisonous path' with second bombshell book
Prince Harry has been warned against going down a "lucrative but poisonous path" with another book that would slam the door shut on any reconciliation with the Royal Family.
The Duke of Sussex's tell-all memoir, Spare, primarily focused on his life before he married Meghan Markle in 2018, something which "did not go unnoticed," according to a new biography of King Charles by Robert Hardman.
Mr Hardman wrote in the new book, according to MailOnline: "For the Palace, the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of large chunks of more recent events.
"It did not go unnoticed that Harry and Meghan’s wedding, their married life, and their eventual departure from the royal world amounted to a small part – less than a fifth – of Prince Harry’s memoir. This suggested either a sequel or, perhaps a memoir by Meghan in due course."
But royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has warned against either Harry writing another bombshell book, claiming it would inflict massive damage onto their brand.
Royal expert says King Charles looks 'vulnerable and a little sad' in new portrait
King Charles II comes across as "sad" in his brand new official royal portrait, according to a royal expert.
They added that the monarch also looks a "little vulnerable".
Royal biographer Angela Levin told GB News: "I think it’s very nice, but I do think he looks a bit vulnerable and a little sad. He’s wearing the Admiral of the Fleet uniform, it’s an amazing amount he’s carrying on him - I wonder how heavy it is."
Charles’s fresh portrait was released recently to much excitement, and the “regal” monarch wore his Royal Navy uniform as an Admiral of the Fleet. It came amid news that the Government was spending £8million on a controversial scheme to let various public buildings receive the portrait and hang it up.
The portrait, which would be delivered framed, can be claimed for free by council buildings, courts, schools, police, fire and rescue services, among other institutions.
