Open Access

The DFG supports open access. Important with respect to DFG funding is the benefit of this publishing method in the respective scientific context. The DFG does not see open access as an end in itself, but as a tool in its efforts to promote scholarly communication in a manner which is in line with the needs of research.

DFG’s position at science policy level

Here you can find an explanation of the DFG’s science policy positions with regard to open access. This includes support for the Berlin Declaration and the “Action Plan for Diamond Open Access” as well as the position paper on “Academic Publishing”.

Open access in infrastructure funding

This section describes how the DFG supports open access in the infrastructure context. For example, funding may be requested from institutions to cover open access publication costs, or open access infrastructures and services may be established.
