Torin is on the hunt attempting to track down and find an evil Sorceress called Lycentia who he believes is responsible for the abduction of his parents from the Lands Above. Torin learns about Lena, the King and Queen of Escarpa's daughter who has gone missing as well. During his exploration of Escarpa he discovers mysterious tiles which seem to hold some significance although at this point we're still unsure what they mean.

Torins Passage is one of my all time favourite games which I first played when I was probably about five or six years old. It's a point and click adventure game featuring a number of worlds within one another as part of a nested planet where humans can travel between levels of the planet through the use of a Phenocryst chamber.

I always remember the canned laughter that features within the Bitternuts sequence. I admin it's a btit annoying now playing back after all of these years but was a memorable and completely unexpected part of the game that did provide some laughs and the script is so well executed here it's something I wouldn't want to lose from the game.

00:00Hello and welcome to chapter 2. Today we're going to be playing one of my all-time favourite
00:05games called Torrin's Passage.
00:30Hello and
00:55welcome back to Torrin's Passage.
00:57We managed to beat the first level called The Lands Above and we're now in a place called
01:02Iscarpa.
01:03I really enjoyed the last episode, I had a really fun time playing that. I haven't played
01:08this game for many years, first played it when I was like 5 or 6 years old. It's a point
01:12and click adventure, it's one of my favourite games of all time and we're on a quest.
01:19We obviously managed to arrive here through the use of a phoenicrist, which is a sort
01:24of way of travelling between different worlds, in this case being portals. Our objective
01:31of course is to reach the lands below.
01:35Let's go and investigate. Obviously we're trying to find an evil sorceress called Lysensha.
01:43We don't know much about her at the moment but what we do know is that we need to find
01:47her because Torrin's parents have been either killed or captured. We don't know.
02:04Well not again!
02:11Oh, tiles. Not sure what the purpose of them is. Let's see.
02:25It just says a tile, so we've got two tiles, so it must be something that's going to come
02:31in handy maybe later in the game. Don't know at this point what they're for. Hmm, intriguing.
02:38Let's see what's down here. Let's have a look.
03:23Just a minute! Holly, can you get that? Oh, never mind. Do I have to do everything around
03:42here? Coming! Yo, aren't you the giant economy-sized visitor? You know I'd ask you in but I'm not
03:55sure there's enough air in here. Holly, take a look at this guy. This is what a real man
04:05looks like. Harley? Oh honey, don't mind him. He's just acting his IQ. So, uh, you want
04:20to come in? Or maybe that should be, can you come in? Why thank you, I will. Hey mom, I...
04:45Whoa! Who's the big guy? We don't know, honey. We're still waiting to find out.
05:05My name is Torin, from the lands above. I'm Mrs. Bitternut, and this is what's left of
05:11my husband, Mr. Bitternut. And that's Bobby, our son. So, uh, what's that thing in your
05:26purse? Why, that's my little buddy, Boogle. Oh, he won't hurt you. He likes people. Yeah?
05:50And he won't fit in here. If he's smart, he'll stay off my furniture. Hmm, let's see
06:03what Boogle's got. He's got a Boogle yo-yo, and he's turned himself into a Boogle shovel.
06:17That could be handy. Mrs. Bitternut, I was wondering... Selfish, that's all they are.
06:23Lived right across the chasm for years. Do we ever hear from them? I'm sorry, what? Oh,
06:29that King Rupert, he really fries my cornbread. Lives almost next door. Does he ever invite us
06:41over? No. Why, you'd think he was better than us or something. I'm sure King Rupert means to be
06:58nice to you. Perhaps he's just busy. Mmm, busy for 20 years, and that queen of his. Die? Yeah,
07:09she should. Why, what's wrong with her? Too snooty for me, that's what, Toring. Why,
07:19she acts like they didn't have a daughter that was... Hey, have you met their daughter?
07:27What about their daughter? Her name's Lena, or something like that. You two should get
07:37together, Toring. You have so much in common. We do? Like what? Oh, your looks, I suppose.
07:49Yeah, you two deserve each other. How would you describe Lena? Well,
08:06let's see. She has a nice personality. She's kind to her parents, I suppose. She's a good climber.
08:27She's lots of fun. She's got a great personality. In other words, she's a lot like you. Okay,
08:53let's have a little explore around the house. There's one of those green tiles on the table.
09:00Let's pick it up. Hey, what are you doing? Put that down. Hello, young man. Did he touch you,
09:15boy? Not really, Mom. What do you mean, not really? You touch that boy again, I'll have
09:24you arrested. We don't need no uppity strangers from some other land touching our kids.
09:30How do you do, sir? My name is Toring. Leave him alone. He ain't spoke to nobody in years.
09:49Yes, I can see why. Back in the bag, buddy. Be sure to join us next time when we hear Bobby
10:13Bitternut ask, I don't know how that stain got there, Mom. The Bitternuts is not filmed before
10:23a live audience. Okay, so that was the Bitternuts. Okay, so let's go exploring down here. Down these
10:44long steps. Oh, we've got a new item that Boogle's turned into. It's like a yo-yo. Okay, what a
10:52strange green man. What is he doing? Oh, is that a sheep? Hello! She's so busy washing, she never even
11:03noticed me. She's got really yellow teeth. That's not very nice. Someone left this clothes
11:22pin just hanging here. What is this? Clothes peg? Oh, we've got something here. A clothes peg. Not sure what we're
11:34going to use that for. Hurry, Boob! Hop in! Well, let's go up this way. There's a sort of tunnel there.
11:47See what we can find. I like the background of this world. A tiny hole. How am I going to get in there? Oh, you can just crouch.
12:07Well, well, what have we here? What on earth? It's nice to see humility in somebody around here. Good day, sir. Yes, it is, isn't it? But then every day is a good day here in Paradise. A land as lovely as this should be called Paradise. Maybe it should, but we call it Escarpa. But the real question is, what do we call you? Oh, forgive me, sir.
12:37My name is Torrin of the lands above. I am Rupert, King of Escarpa. And this is my lovely wife, Queen Di. Oh, how do you do, ma'am? Alarmed, I'm sure. Eh, what's that? I said charmed, I'm sure. That's nice.
13:02Hmm, I'd better not. I bet the King has heard enough jokes like, I suppose she's your biggest fan. Is it back then forth, or forth then back?
13:20I love the artwork over your throne, Your Majesty.
13:24Why, thank you. But somehow I've always felt my child collection was incomplete.
13:31As incomplete as your memory, you specious fool.
13:35What's that you say, darling?
13:38I said, no art can compete with our memories, my precious jewel.
13:44Oh, yes, quite so, quite so. What do you think, boy? Isn't she something?
13:51Yes, that she is.
13:54Your Majesty, I can see you are a lover of crystals.
13:58Yes, that's the only kind he is.
14:01What did you say?
14:02I said, yes, and how kind he is.
14:06Why, thank you, dear. But continue, boy.
14:10I humbly offer you this gift from the lands above. I think it will balance your set of crystal shards. May I?
14:18Yes, of course.
14:20There. And as this one simple shard completes the connection between the formerly distinct spectra above us,
14:29so too, therefore, may our two worlds be connected by the connection of the two worlds.
14:37I think it's time for me to go, Your Majesty.
14:40Yes, Your Majesty.
14:41...between the formerly distinct spectra above us, so too, therefore, may our two worlds be connected by the peace and understanding that comes from, you know, like that. There.
15:00Hear, hear!
15:02Bravo!
15:03I say, what the devil was the boy talking about, die?
15:09Beats me.
15:10Die? What did you say?
15:12I said, beats me.
15:15Well, I'll consider it. Why, thank you, Torrin. It's perfect. And in return, I'd like to present you with this invitation to next week's Royal Ball.
15:27Nice swap. Shard for free tickets, you cheapskate.
15:32What? What did you say, die?
15:35I said, I hope he's still free at this late date.
15:40Oh. Yes, boy, do attend.
15:48Thank you, Your Majesty.
15:53King Rupert, Queen Die, I am here seeking Lysentia, an evil sorceress who may be in this area. Have you heard of her?
16:03I haven't heard of any Lysentia.
16:06He hasn't heard of anything he can remember.
16:08What's that, my queen?
16:11I said, if you'd heard a thing, you'd have her dismembered.
16:15Yes, that's true. She's not here in Escarpa, young man.
16:21Perhaps she's in some other world below us, but you are welcome to stay here as my guest for as long as you wish.
16:30Thank you, Your Majesty. Do you know how to get to the worlds below Escarpa?
16:35It seems I recall a connection back when I was a young boy.
16:40Lately, we've seen no one at all from the other worlds.
16:44I don't know why. I suppose we've just lost touch.
16:48You can say that again.
16:50Eh? I missed that, die.
16:54I said, I say, that's a sin.
16:57Well, yes, I suppose.
17:00I didn't realize you felt so strongly about foreign affairs.
17:04If you only knew.
17:09I cannot stay long in Escarpa. I must find Lysentia.
17:14Yes, I understand. But in your travels, if you happen upon a young lady named Lena, would you give her a message?
17:22Of course. But how will I know her? What does she look like?
17:25Well, Lena is, um, very tall. Yes, nearly as tall as you.
17:35And nearly as unsightly.
17:38Excuse me?
17:40I said, she should call home nightly.
17:43Oh.
17:47Is Lena from Escarpa?
17:49Of course. She is my daughter.
17:53Oh, really? A princess? Has she been gone long?
17:57Only a few days. But parents worry, nonetheless.
18:03I understand. I know what it's like to miss a loved one.
18:08Die, my dear. Why don't you give this boy a piece of your jewelry?
18:13That way, Lena will know he was right.
18:16Give this boy a piece of your jewelry. That way, Lena will know he represents us.
18:21Oh, brother, are you right in his pocket?
18:25What was that?
18:27I said, tell her mother sent her this locket.
18:31Oh, yes. Good idea.
18:33Here, Torrin. Take this one.
18:36See? It has a picture of Rupert and me on the inside.
18:40I promise to keep it safe until I find her.
18:49You mentioned a message for Lena, Your Majesty.
18:53Why, yes. Tell her to come home.
18:55You mentioned a message for Lena, Your Majesty.
18:59Why, yes. Tell her to come home. We all miss her greatly.
19:04At least one of us.
19:07Eh? What's that you say, Die?
19:10I said, every last one of us.
19:13Oh. Well. Yes, that's right.
19:17So tell her that, my boy, if you happen upon her, that is.
19:21I will.
19:25I can't wait to meet Lena. I've never met a princess before.
19:30She is a wonderful child. So sweet-natured, I miss her greatly.
19:37I can believe that.
19:39What was that?
19:41I said, I can believe that you miss her.
19:46Godspeed, Torrin, and may our paths cross again soon.
19:55Your Majesty, this tile seems similar to others I've seen around Escarpa.
20:01Ah, yes, I suppose it is. It was a most popular style a few years ago.
20:08May I have it for my collection?
20:11But what for?
20:13Oh, nothing, I guess. I just kind of liked it.
20:16No! Not without a very good reason, young man.
20:19I hope this isn't one of those buffets with a eat-all-you-take policy.
20:50Okay, so we're on the move again.
20:52Let's go looking across this bridge, see what we can find.
20:56So we've met King Rupert and Queen Di.
21:04Now, where are we at the moment?
21:07Oh, we're going down the way, okay.
21:10Oh, we're going down the way, okay.
21:13Oh, we're going down the way, okay.
21:16Oh, we're going down the way, okay.
21:18Oh, we're going down the way, okay.
21:24Now we're up again.
21:26Okay, let's go and visit the Bitternuts again.
21:29See what they're up to.
21:34Okay.
21:38We now return you to the Bitternuts, already in progress.
21:44Just a minute!
21:45Coming!
21:49Do I have to do everything around here?
22:04So we have got an invitation to the Royal Ball.
22:08Mrs. B, I just came from King Rupert, and he asked me to give you this.
22:13What is it?
22:15An invitation to the Royal Ball!
22:31Yee-haw, Harley! We're going to the ball!
22:34Ain't you excited?
22:36Oh, he's never been excited in his life!
22:39Thoring, if there's anything we own that you need for your journey,
22:42why, just help yourself! It's yours!
22:49Why, thank you, Mrs. B.
22:51Of course, I'd love it if you'd take the mister over there!
22:55Why, thank you, Mrs. B.
22:57Of course, I'd love it if you'd take the mister over there!
23:12Hey, hey! What are you doing? Put that down!
23:15That's my best trivet!
23:18Aw, Mom, let him have it! You haven't cooked since I was born!
23:25The kid's right! Go on, take it!
23:39But don't go taking anything else, you hear?
23:42And good luck on your quest, young man!
23:45Hey, any chance of you taking Junior along with you?
23:49None whatsoever, I'm afraid.
23:52But thanks for the trivet, Mrs. B.
24:05Back in the bag, buddy!
24:11Be sure to join us next time when we hear Bobby Bitternut ask...
24:16Mom will never find out!
24:21The Bitternuts is not filmed before a live audience!
