Balding man unrecognisable after 'incredible' transformation as new admirers say 'it has taken 15 years off him'

A balding man was left sobbing with joy after an 'incredible' hair transformation left him looking unrecognisable. 

Gethin was stunned after his barber Rob Wood at Novo Cabelo salon in Durham, gave his hair a new lease of life.

Before Rob weaved his magic Gethin's hair was thinning on top and he was forced to sweep it in a combover style.

Staff at Novo Cabelo filmed the transformation and shared it on TikTok, raking in over half-a-million views from stunned social media users. 

When he first sat in the chair, Gethin explained why he had made the appointment at the salon.   

He divulged that his hair had been thinning for years but since his milestone 40th birthday last February he had been attempting to hide his hair loss.

He said: [My hair] started to thin. Obviously, at the back, you can see it in the forehead, obviously, losing a lot of hair as well.

'You get used to the same old same old I suppose is the only way I can explain it.'

Explaining his frustration with not being able to do anything with his hair, he added: 'It's just you do it you get on with it and it is what it is.'

Excited for a fresh start, Gethin placed his trust in barber Rob talented hands as he exclaimed: '40 begins today.' 

Chopping and shaving his way into Gethin's hair, the specialist barber carefully selected real human hair to match the 40-year-old's colour, texture and style. 

According to Rob, the hair system can last between four to six months, but requires refitting every three to four weeks.

Brimming with joyful tears, Gethin was lost for words when his new look was unveiled in the mirror. 

The beaming 40-year-old said: 'Oh my god. I never thought I'd see the day again. God its absolutely amazing love it - absolutely love it.'

However this wasn't hairstylist Rob's first rodeo with transforming someone's hair having started his 'lockdown baby' Novo Cabelo four years ago. 

Rob told MailOnline: 'It all started 10 years ago. Where one of the girls who worked for me, her brother in law was really struggling with his mental health related to his hair loss. 

'So, I did a bit of YouTubing and research to see what was actually out there, and what  we could do and that's when I found the hair systems.'

After testing the hair system out on his colleague's brother-in-law. Rob decided to open Novo Cabelo and specialise in treating hair lose for all ages and genders. 

Reflecting on Gethin's transformation, who was on his way to the salon as we spoke, Rob said:  'It's amazing. Because in one hand, I'm just doing my job, but I just just love it. 

'I don't ever get tired of it. I just I just find it's something so simple that can really turn people's lives around, and the way that they see themselves. 

'The way they feel inside. To be able to do that service is is such a a blessing and a real privilege to do.'

He added: 'For Gethin, this new look was really important because he was at a point in his life where he felt like he needed to change, and feel better. 

'And this was just the start of his journey, and it was quite emotional, even just meeting up with him for a consultation.

'Everyone's different, and everyone sees hair differently.  We've all got our stories to tell  and I think that's what's lovely.' 

Gethin was over the moon with his new look as he often shows off his new hair styling methods to the salon, according to Rob. 

Gethin wasn't the only one left amazed by the transformation as shocked viewers claimed his new haircut made him look  15 years younger.

One penned: 'Gethin if you read this, you look INCREDIBLE! Enjoy your 40th year with confidence!'

A second chimed in: He don't look 40 at all and with the transformation he look more younger great job! 

'I think I need this. Good work, a third quipped.

'I love seeing how these transformations just lift the whole person , absolutely amazing,' said another praising the barber.

'I love the way you bring back light into these people's eyes,' one person added.
