A Stronghold of Japanese Culture
At the meeting point of river and sea, huge Osaka combines forward-thinking development and sure-footed tradition. This is symbolised in its temple-like, 16th century castle, guarded by ramparts and enlivened by vibrant spring cherry blossom. Dominating the surrounding skyline is Osaka Business Park, a reminder of the city’s strong role in the Japanese economy.
However, the most striking skyscraper is the Umeda Sky Building - 2 towers connected by a rooftop terrace offering far-reaching views. The nearby Osaka and Umeda train stations are linked by underground shopping centres, while the shops of Shinsaibashi’s America Village appeal to a younger crowd. Dōtonbori’s neon lights promote more shops, as well as restaurants considered the best in Osaka. In a city touted as Japan’s culinary capital, that’s quite an accolade.
The Tsūtenkaku tower overlooks Tennōji Park, home of the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. Another nearby park houses Shitennō-ji, one of Japan’s oldest Buddhist temples.
The Kyocera Dome Osaka is a shrine of baseball, and more thrills are at waterfront Universal Studios Japan, the country’s 2nd largest theme park. Also by the sea is Kansai International Airport, on its own artificial island.

Just wow. It was too good!! There’s so much to do in Osaka. It was my first time being in Japan and stayed there studying Japanese for more than a month and it was so worth it!! It was very easy to get around the city and you always have something new to do every day. I would recommend a lot going outside at nighttime, I met incredible people!! In general Japanese are so kind but the ones in Kansai area made my stay so much better and easier :)) many activities like going to Round1, karaokes in Dotonbori and shopping in stores like Wego where clothes are very trendy and popular among young adults or in Book-off was so cool :) I think Osakas way more popular for its nightlife and ambience, so if you’re around your 20s it’s a must going to Osaka🥰 If you’re a woman be careful though!! You’ll probably find guys asking for your number and talking to u for a while (nanpa). Also I really recommend going to Universal Studios and to the Kaiyukan aquarium!! It was so fun :) If you’re planning a trip to Japan around summer, go to a festival too! So worth it🥰 Apart from Namba try going to Umeda (amazing for shopping and eating outdoors), Tennoji and have dinner in an izakaya in Tenma!! Very worth it trying Okonomiyaki (personal fav)!! Osaka castle,Dotonbori,Kuromon market,Hanyu shopping area and Universal studios are all worth visiting.If you dont intend to go to Universal studios you can skip Osaka and go to Kyoto instead as it has more touristy things to see and more traditional.Food is good in Osaka but I feel all restaurants are tiny and uncomfortable to sit.My best meal experience was Universal studios but local food is enjoyable and you got to find the right place.

Have stayed here many times but enjoyed the Shinsaibashi location which we hadn't seen before. A good easy walk through the shopping arcades to Dotonbori and it's tourist attractions. Train travel is easy and close by. August has very hot weather which impacted on our trip this time.

We stayed for 4 nights. For us, it was just enough time to visit the Castle, the aquarium and Dotonbori shopping. There are too many restaurants for every budget and taste buds, so to speak. We just walked around with no plans at the end of a day and would walk in to any place that looked interesting and dined in. If people enjoy bustling atmospheres, lots of excitement and choices in a big city, then they should visit.

Osaka is a vibrant and cute city. Really nice shopping, beautiful places to go and feels really safe. There are more trashcans than in Tokyo and the metro works so well. The food was good, but the hours of the food places close very early (might be like this in all of Japan though). We loved Osaka for shopping, for drinks, for exploring and the locals are incredibly nice and helpful.JosefineDenmark
