Malmaison Oxford, hotel in Oxford

This converted Victorian prison is now a stunning boutique hotel offering unique luxury accommodations in historic Oxford. Limited private parking is available for a surcharge.

Signature suite was quirky and different and hotel location was excellent in relation to the access to the city centre, very good parking (and thankfully I pre booked before arrival). Loads of local places for breakfast within about 5-10 minutes walk from the Hotel.

Great location, everything very clean, Elena and Bruce were very friendly, making their best to make us feel great. The only minus is less than necessary place in twin bed room. Not enough place to move from one corner to another without embarrassing your partner, and NO place at all for luggage. Without these mentions it could have been one of the best accomodations I had.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

The architecture is beautiful and it was very pretty at night because of the run up to Christmas. However, think Oxford really hates motorists. And little consideration for disabled, blue badge holders. We had to circle a few times looking for a disabled bay as near as possible to the New Theatre; we managed to find one about 3 blocks away, but our efforts looking for a disabled bay meant that we didn't notice that we'd accidentally wandered into a bus lane and we got a fine a fortnight later. Will put us off venturing into Oxford again.

I enjoyed the covered market as it had a wide range of independent shops to browse, as well as local history. I wish I'd spent another day here exploring the ashmolean museum and a lovely looking restaurant called The Alice, furnished exclusively with Alice in Wonderland paintings.

Oxford has become one of my favorite places.

Oxford has become one of my favorite places. Away from the bustle of London and a good blend of city life and the charm of the Cotswolds. Oxford I believe is one if the most unique cities in the world. A short distance to some of the most picturesque areas of the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire. From Oxford I have done day trips as far south as Bournemouth. A must see is Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s family home, only 20 mins away. Towns such as Broadway, Bibury, cirencester, Burford, Burton-on-the-Water and Chipping Norton, just to name a few, are a must see. The town of Bath, with its Roman ruins is only a short 55 mile drive. The city of Oxford itself, has so much charm and you can just feel the history in its air and aura. Sit in pubs where Lewis Carroll, writer of Alice in Wonderland, Albert Einstein, David Cameron and Hugh Grant used to frequent. So all in all you won’t even need to visit London, there is a whole vacation just in and around Oxford.

Oxford is a great place to visit, there’s plenty to do and explore. The main reason for my visit was to see “War Horse” at the New Theatre. What a show that was. I highly recommend it. The Christmas market in Broad Street is a must see. The double deck carousel looks amazing. The Wig and Pen opposite the theatre is a great place to eat, very nice food at reasonable prices.

Everything. The staff were extremely friendly, except for one girl who worked the bar in the evening, she was very miserable. Daniel on the reception desk was lovely as was Alfie who worked the bar in the evening. The location was great because the park and ride was literally over the road so we walked there and got the bus straight into Oxford City Centre. The food was great, the breakfast had plenty of choice and was always hot. We ate at the hotel in the lounge area every evening and there were plenty of choices on the menu.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially during breakfast. The room was good size and clean; had everything we needed (e.g. iron) without asking room service. Hotel décor is nice. Gym has modern equipment. Oxford city centre is within walking distance. Nearby there is a Thames path and a horse field, which set the hotel in a beautiful surrounding.
