Once a destination for surfers, Florianopolis now also rides the tourism wave of chic nightclubs and beach parties. Just off the coast of southern Brazil on Santa Catarina Island, Florianopolis features over 40 perfect beaches to choose from.
The island is connected to the industrialized mainland by the Hercilio Luz Bridge. On the island side, Praca XV de Novembro square is just south of the city center. Follow the tree-lined boulevard to get there with its beautiful Catedral Metropolitana.
The northern downtown area features a promenade outlining the historic streets of Beira-Mar-Norte.
The northern beach of Jurere is party central with many nightclubs catering to Brazil’s emerging wealthy class. Further south on the east coast are Joaquina, Campeche and Mole beaches, which have a more traditional surf and youth culture with many oceanfront bars scattered along the shore.
Florianopolis’ Hercilio Luz International Airport services many international destinations during the high tourist season. Booking.com has a complete range of accommodation options such as hotels in the city center or guesthouses and apartments with pool located near the beach.

The beaches are outstanding although if you are visiting during the high season, be prepared for lots of traffic on the roads and plan accordingly. The islands infrastructure is inadequate for the number of visitors, and there are traffic jams galore. But all in all, it's well worth the visit and if you are an oyster fan, you found your spot.

I've been in Florianopolis 3 times: one with my best friend for a week, one alone for a few days and this last one alone and for only one night. There is always a lot to do and see and time always seems to be short. It is a very safe capital in a third world country, many tourists always around and nice people everywhere. Good food too! The public transportation works very well, with easy connections with only one ticket and you can go to the north and south of the island even in one day if you wish (although it takes some time to go...). You have options of more modern and developed beaches in the north, and more savage and untouched nature in the south. I like this combination and to have many possibilities. I personally dislike the city center, where you can see more homeless people and some crowd. In the summer time it is always packed wherever you go, so I try to avoid this time of the year. Honestly, so far, Florianopolis is my favorite Brazilian capital! :)

Florianopolis or just Floripa for locals is an amazing experience in Brazil. Beautiful nature, and good prices, Uber works quite well there and is surrounded by amazing beaches and offers good meals, beers, and caipirinhas for a fair price. It is a destination to rest and is not as much packed as Rio de Janeiro, with rich and beautiful nature, palm trees everywhere, banana tree, delicious mangos and papayas.

It was great to stay in the central area of Lagoa da Conceição. Neighborhoods in Florianópolis are quite apart from each other and, due to the geography, access (walking or cycling) is not so easy, but inside the neighborhood is very walk-friendly and safe.
You need a car (rented or uber) if you want to visit different beaches and neighborhoods. Get ready for traffic.
I loved Praia Mole and Praia da Galheta (an optional nudist beach), they are both beautiful and great for swimming.
Again, due to the geography, I would say Florianópolis is not accessible for people with limited mobility. You walk a lot (which is great for the contact with nature).

Florianópolis has a lot of beautiful beaches.
Florianópolis has a lot of beautiful beaches. Jurerê, where we stayed, was disappointing. There are many more interesting beaches, e.g. Ponta das Canal, Brava, Ingelses, Santinho, Maçambique, Campeche, Morra das Pedras, all very interesting. Jurerê is known as the posh place of the island with luxury apartments. But at the other beaches you can find comfortable places to stay, if you put some effort in it. We ate best in local fish restaurants, a lot better than in the pretentious restaurants in Jurerê. Traffic in the north of the island is very dense. The (south) east is better. We especially liked the south-west of the island. Quiet villages, houses with small beaches, very peaceful. Next time we will avoid the north of the island.

The staff is more than a staff: they can be your friends and fellow travellers (obrigado Bru, Gu and others!), organising the trips and hangouts in Barra da Lagoa, cooking and working together, sharing amazing stories, helping in need and building connections❤️This and a comfortable co-working area with solid desks and WiFi speed are definitely the strongest points of Nômades. I also loved the termo com café! ☕ Also, the owner is a great guy who understood my points and behaved fair.
The Chale was gorgeous, very cozy and tidy when we arrived. The host was reachable whenever we had any questions and helped us with everything we needed.
The area is lovely with multiple restaurants, grocery stores, a chemist and transportation via Uber was very quick and easy. We had a lovely time and we'll definitely come back the next time we travel to Florianópolis!
Bida was fantastic from start to finish! We really enjoyed our stay and were made to feel so welcome! They couldn’t have done any more for us! We will definitely come back again if we travel to Florianopolis
Very peaceful, nice bird life, next to lake and away from the exuberant partying youth at the Hotel Selina. The reception staff were the most friendly and helpful that I met in Brazil.
