'My 90s time capsule is my safe space'

A man who turned his home into a 1990s "time capsule" says the nostalgic decor makes him feel safe.

Jack Walters, 26, drives a 1997 Vauxhall Astra, uses old kitchen appliances and even collects carrier bags from the 90s.

He says he had a "rough time" at school, growing up queer and autistic in the ex-mining town of Sutton-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire.

Inspired by his grandparents' decor he saw in old home videos, Mr Walters, who now lives in Litton, Derbyshire, said he "built a world at home" where he felt comfortable.

"We're all victims of nostalgia and I try and use it in a positive way to give me safety," he said.
