A sea wall will fail without essential works, the government has warned.

Marco Tersigni, infrastructure officer for the States of Guernsey, said repairs were vital to prevent the structure from collapsing.

He said remedial works being carried out on Les Banques for two weeks involved reinforcing "metal sheet piles which had corroded quite badly".

Mr Tersigni said work had been delayed until after Christmas to avoid traffic delays over the festive period.

"There is the risk that part of the wall could fail...we need to make sure that part of the wall is secured and reinforced," he said.

The works are due to be completed by 28 January, depending on tides.
