Reading this classic for the first time was an interesting experience.
I was not captivated by the plot or the characters. Those are the two bulletpoints I value most in a book. So I found the reading experience overall slow and uneventful. To be fair, how much of that was because I anticipated most of the major twists due to pre-existing knowledge gained from the movies and internet memes.
The prose is beautiful and varied, and the words depicted a colorful world and practically drowned me in its histories and lore. Some (a lot) of it unfortunately are not great experiences on audiobook. Though I have to admit I quite enjoyed Rob Inglis's singing!!
I fully intend to come back and reread the book at a more leisure pace and I suspect I will enjoy it much more the second time around.
