A Summary of the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
This is a summary of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. Meditations is essentially a scrapbook of thoughts written over a 19-year period; it’s not ordered and it repeats itself frequently as ideas reoccurred to the author at different times. For this reason, it can be hard for a casual reader to extract the myriad messages contained within. This summary helps in that by interpreting Meditations and reducing it from around 50,000 words down to 4,400. While it has been interpreted, the author has done his best not to embellish it.
If you ever wish to read the original, the modern Gregory Hays translation on Amazon is excellent as are the two public domain translations: A. S. L. Farquharson, 1944, and George Long, 1862, which are available for free on Wikisource. You can also find my narration on Audible.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2023The narrator did a great job with this—and he has a great voice for the task. I have always loved Meditations but admit there are some tedious, redundant parts in the original. This summary is more concise and to the point without the repetitions. I literally listen to this summary every morning with my first cup of coffee. It serves as a useful reminder to just pay attention to the quality and utility
of my own thoughts and judgements. A nice way to start the day.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2023I'm an engineer and not a philosopher. But I am human and I have my own inherent faults and fears about how to negotiate the life I have been given. This short summary of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations offers superb guidance on how to be a good human through duty and service to others.
