This book also gives advice on many personal problems, relationships, work or productivity issues, as well as much more. This book helps the reader face issues that they are dealing with, as well as conquer them. There are things that happen in life that you are unable to control, and this book help you deal with those issues. - Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2018This book was recommended by Amazon from another purchase I made, so I thought I would give it a try to see what it was about. I had the option of ordering the Kindle version or the paperback version and I chose the paperback since I would rather have a book in my hands! I am so happy that I order the paperback, especially with this book because it is one that I would love to share with others. The quotes in the book are relatable and applicable to many situations today as when they were written, which gives truth to the phrase that some things never change. The struggles of individuals have been going on for centuries and the philosophers in the Daily Stoic resonate in a powerful way. Marcus Aurelius has instantly become my favorite philosopher since his writings are threads in my life.
I recommend this book for inspiration!

These quotes offer an interesting insight into the stoic philosophy as well as being beautiful and inspirational. - Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2018Daily Stoic: A Daily Journal on Meditation Stoicism by George Tanner is organized by seasons. The book further details what the reader will learn in each section of the book. According to Tanner, stoicism is defined as a philosophy where the follower uses wisdom, knowledge and ethics to guide one’s path in life. The book provides appropriate quotes for each season from authors respected for their intelligence and virtue. Reading quotes that match the mood one is in, offers comfort and insight into one’s own feelings. This is a great primer for those looking for guiding principles to help the reader navigate living in a stoic frame of mind.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018I am a believer in the stoic philosophy. I didn’t realize it before but I am a natural and it! I was practicing it before I knew it had a name. But for those who may or be familiar but have an idea... here is a quote from Geoegw Tanners boom/ “The Stoics embody the love Of wisdom. The most important Stoic virtues are courage, temperance, prudence, and justice. For the Stoics, a life without these virtues is bestial, unbecoming of humanity. Further, these virtues are interdependent.” Meaning you cannot fully comprehend and practice one without understanding the others.
This book is unique in the fact that it offers over 100 different quotes and sayings from various Stoic authors and philosophers. And as a Greek and Roman mythology buff I happened to find the works of some of the great philosophers of that Rome really fascinating! Anyways here are a few excerpt I particularly took to heart while reading because I suffer from anxiety, depression, and being a stay at home parent also concerns for the future:
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations[ 8] “Your happiness depends on three things, all of which are within your power: your will, your ideas concerning the events in which you are involved, and the use you make of your ideas.”
Epictetus, Enchiridion[ 10] “So long, in fact, as you remain in ignorance of what to aim at and what to avoid, what is essential and what is superfluous, what is upright or honorable conduct and what is not, it will not be traveling but drifting. All this hurrying from place to place won’t bring you any relief, for you’re traveling in the company of your own emotions, followed by your troubles all the way.”
Cicero, On Anger[ 18] “Nothing is burdensome if taken lightly, and nothing need arouse one's irritation so long as one doesn't make it bigger than it is by getting irritated.”
Seneca, Letters From a Stoic
“And here are two of the most immediately useful thoughts you will dip into. First that things cannot touch the mind: they are external and inert; anxieties can only come from your internal judgment. Second, hat all these things you see will change almost as you look at them, and then will be no more. Constantly bring to mind all that you yourself have already seen changed. The universe is change: life is judgment.”
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Having read Mr. Tanner’s work on Stoicism, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was pleased to see another work in that vein of a different sort. This work is classified as a book of stoic quotations, the wisdom arranged as a reference book.
Having had a challenging summer, I found it incredibly useful to be able to look through the book as my thoughts warranted. Feeling angry? Cicero had something to say about that. Not sure how to deal with all the unexpected obstacles life seems to love handing your way? Seneca has your back.
One of the books that I feel has most influenced my life is Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius. I was pleased to find many of my favorite passages here, and look forward to referencing it daily - and whenever life getting extraordinarily challenging!
