I loved how this book built to such a crescendo; it inspired me to better thinking. I read a chapter each day to give each question time to really sink into my soul. I found myself wanting to post a tweet or message that Chapter X , or question X was the best. Full of personal scenarios and biblical insights, the book challenged me to think about past and future decisions in a way I wouldn’t have before reading this book.Andy’s good stories, that I could tie to moments in my life (growing up, raising kids, working with others in church and vocationally), gave me confidence to face the future decisions in my life Better. The questions and stories in the book are easy to share with others in all facets of life.Ultimately the final question is the best and most comprehensive. Andy reminds us that serving and loving others the way Jesus did is a high calling we are all worthy of, and is relevant for these divisive times. If we could all just live by that question day by day, we wouldn’t need all the other ones and our world would be a better place. Read this book, take time to let each chapter connect to your story and have its full effect. Make the decision to read this book; you won’t regret a minute spent doing so.

I was excited to get Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets, not because these are completely new and original ideas about wise decision-making, but because Andy Stanley does such a great job of taking challenging truth and making it painfully applicable to my life.

As a regular attender at one of Andy’s Atlanta-area churches who has been listening to him for over 25 years, I have heard most of the content in this book at some point before. But this book is such a simple and easy read that I am amazed how rich it is! I read through the whole book in just a few hours over two days, but highlighted 229 phrases or passages that I found highly impactful.

The stories that Andy uses to illustrate the principles, a mix of his own experiences and biblical narratives, is very engaging and powerful. Even at times when the content might be difficult to accept, the illustrations make the truth both compelling and inviting. My takeaway from many of the application examples was it often seemed easier said than done, and yet I felt so drawn to the outcomes that I was inspired to try asking these questions in my own life.

The timing of this book is excellent, because this has been a challenging season in so many ways, and it is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture and what matters most when making so many difficult decisions in high pressure circumstances. By far the legacy question is the one that I find most helpful to refocus on the bigger story and pull up from the weeds.

Asking what love requires of me is constantly one of the most challenging questions I wrestle with, often because deep down I know, yet the answer is hard and costly. Andy very bluntly points out that this is the only question with no guaranteed return. Loving others well might not ever be reciprocated or appreciated, and yet is such a powerful application to find clarity in even the most difficult and cloudy decision contexts.

This is such an easy read, yet is powerfully rich and so applicable for doing life better one decision at a time!

Oh, what I would give to travel back in time and give this book to my 15 year old self. I hope I would have been wise enough to read it and apply it.

In "Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets", Andy Stanley teaches 5 basic questions to help guide you through life and live a life with fewer regrets.
    1. "Am I being hones with myself, really?"
    2. "What story do I want to tell?"
    3. "Is there a tension that needs my attention?"
    4. "What is the wise thing to do?"
    5. "What does love require of me?"

Each of these questions serves as a guide in our day to day and big moment decision making. As Andy says on several occasions, "Every decision you make becomes a permanent part of your story." Which lends itself to the 3rd question, "What story do I want to tell?" or more importantly to me, at the end of my life, what story do I want to be told about me?

We live in a day and age where critical thinking is at an all time low. This book provides practical, easy to read, guidance to help anyone in the decision making process.

"Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets" is an incredible tool for someone of any age. However, I would hope adults would apply it to their lives and then pass it on to younger generations.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was provided with an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. However, I purchased a copy of the book. I plan on passing it down to my children.

It's like listening to an Andy Stanley sermon in book form. He writes like he speaks which makes this book trip along pretty quickly as it dispenses powerful bits of wisdom.

I've been trying to use a decision filter over the last couple years:

    1. What's the wise thing to do?
    2. What does love require of me?
    3. What does unmitigated discipline look like in this situation?

I'm not always successful, but the questions are powerful when I run up to a difficult situation.

This new book from Andy Stanley covers two of those questions (1. and 2.) along with 3 others that help clarify decisions we have to make.

While I'd love there to be a bit more info regarding deciding between two competing, difficult options that do not have ethical issues either way, I believe the 5 questions Stanley poses are more nuanced once you start using them in real time, in real life.

After all, in my mind, life is a series of decisions. We are seldom intentional about these decisions, bouncing emotionally back and forth based on what will cause the least amount of present pain. Stanley encourages us to take a step back and do the actual right thing - not even just the right thing - but the thing that will result in as much future joy as possible - and what will create the least amount of regret.

I recommend the book. It's a quick read, but it packs a punch and runs deeper than you think.

Decisions determine the direction and trajectory of our future. Therefore the framework that guides our decision making process deserves our time and attention. Pastor Stanley gives us a practical, straightforward plug-and-play starting place. Wisdom says we should accept gifts authentically given with our best interest at heart. The faster we recognize the autonomy we have over the journey toward our future the sooner we’ll live a hope-filled life. This book is a great starting point.
