00:00 Prince William, Kate Middleton's new power move
00:02 could lead to even more backstabbing and intrigue.
00:05 Expert, the Prince and Princess of Wales
00:07 put out a job ad for a CEO before William,
00:09 heir to the throne, traveled to New York City.
00:12 Before Prince William touched down in America,
00:14 he and his wife, Kate Middleton,
00:16 had already planned out their latest power move.
00:18 The Prince of Wales is in New York City
00:20 on Monday and Tuesday for several engagements,
00:22 including the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.
00:25 But before his visit, the Prince and Princess of Wales
00:28 put out a job ad for a low-ego chief executive officer, CEO,
00:32 who will run their household.
00:33 Christopher Anderson, author of "The King,"
00:36 warned Fox News Digital that the hire a CEO
00:38 could risk competition with the King's office.
00:41 However, it's noted in the job description
00:43 that the CEO must align the couple's priorities
00:45 with those in support of the King and his wife.
00:48 I'm sure William and Kate think
00:49 they are helping Charles streamline the monarchy
00:51 by creating this new post of CEO.
00:53 But of course, all they are doing
00:55 is adding another layer of bureaucracy.
00:57 Anderson explained, "It's bad enough
00:59 that the private secretaries and deputy private secretaries
01:02 for all the royal households, the men in gray,
01:04 Princess Diana called them,
01:06 spend so much time jockeying for position
01:08 and trying to get the upper hand," he shared.
01:10 "They have always wielded all the power behind the scenes.
01:13 Even the King defers to them,
01:14 just as his mother, Queen Elizabeth Tafey did.
01:17 Now they will have someone above them
01:18 reporting directly to the Prince and Princess of Wales,
01:21 a person who will almost certainly set about
01:23 building their little empire within palace walls.
01:25 This is a recipe for even more backstabbing and intrigue,"
01:28 Anderson alleged.
01:29 "I think William and Kate should stick to the basics,
01:32 just do what they've done in the past, only more so.
01:34 They already have the key to success.
01:36 They know what they're doing.
01:37 As the saying goes, don't fix it if it ain't broke."
01:40 Anderson believes the title of CEO is woefully misguided
01:43 because it's intended to make the monarchy
01:45 sound more business efficient.
01:47 "People don't want to be reminded
01:49 that the firm is exactly that,
01:50 a multi-billion dollar money-making enterprise,"
01:53 said Anderson.
01:54 The term CEO is rather cold-blooded.
01:56 People want it to cling to the illusion of history
01:58 and romance as the essence of the British monarchy.
02:01 According to the job description
02:02 obtained by Fox News Digital,
02:04 the CEO will be the most senior and accountable leader
02:07 for the household of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
02:09 The CEO will report to the couple directly,
02:12 as well as support them to deliver the work
02:14 and impact of TRG's official and private offices.
02:17 The individual will manage a team of about 60 people
02:20 and develop a positive, collaborative,
02:22 and professional culture.
02:23 In addition, the CEO will provide counsel and support
02:26 to TRG's on a wide variety of matters
02:28 related to their public and private offices.
02:30 The ad was posted not on Buckingham Palace's
02:33 official website, but on the page of recruitment firm
02:35 Audgers Burnson.
02:37 A spokesperson for the couple didn't immediately respond
02:39 to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
02:41 "Middleton, 41, has been without a private secretary
02:44 since December," The Telegraph reported.
02:47 According to the outlet,
02:48 Hannah Cockburn-Logee previously took on the role
02:50 for two and a half years,
02:52 but not every royal expert feels the same way as Anderson.
02:55 British royal commentator Jonathan Cicerdoti
02:57 told Fox News Digital that the Prince and Princess of Wales
03:00 have been revamping things behind palace doors
03:03 as the future king and queen consort.
03:05 "Prince William's intention to hire a CEO is interesting
03:08 because it is not the conventional way royal households
03:10 have been staffed," he said.
03:12 "Hiring someone who doesn't come from a background
03:14 of decades of work in the royal households,
03:16 the military, or even from the civil service,
03:18 is a sign that William wants to modernize
03:21 his executive team and run things a bit differently."
03:24 Cicerdoti explained, "I think every senior royal
03:26 in the line of succession has the opportunity
03:29 to work with what they inherit and also to modernize
03:32 and shape things more in their image.
03:33 So it's a sign that he may want to do things
03:35 in a more modern, corporate sort of way.
03:37 We'll need to wait and see how well it works
03:40 and if the new CEO will fit in
03:42 with the more traditional structures and styles
03:44 of the rest of the institution."
03:45 Cicerdoti added, "British royals expert,
03:48 Hilary Fordwich, pointed out to Fox News Digital
03:50 that according to the ad, the couple is seeking someone
03:53 who is calm under pressure,
03:55 able to deal with difficult situations sensitively
03:57 and with integrity.
03:58 The first person who came to my mind was Patrick Jefferson,
04:01 the private secretary and equerry to Diana,
04:04 Princess of Wales from 1988 to 1996."
04:07 Fordwich explained, "While responsible for every aspect of
04:10 her public life, she soared in popularity
04:13 and she totally trusted him
04:14 until Martin Boucher deceived her,
04:16 for which the BBC had to apologize.
04:18 Likewise, William and Catherine need someone they can trust,
04:21 just as Diana did Patrick."
04:22 Fordwich shared, "He most certainly was an admirable
04:25 servant leader, as he recounted after a long day
04:27 visiting a leprosy hospital or the like.
04:30 If she complained to him, he would raise an eyebrow
04:32 in disapproval, causing her to reproach herself,
04:34 validating him with what you're telling me Patrick is,
04:37 'Just shut up, Diana, and do your job.'
04:39 How many would have the strength of character
04:41 to do as Patrick did?
04:42 How many will bring good judgment to the table?"
04:45 Fordwich noted that the hunt for a CEO projects
04:47 an Americanized approach in an attempt to keep
04:50 the monarchy fresh and relevant to a new generation.
04:53 Queen Elizabeth II, England's longest reigning monarch,
04:56 passed away in 2022 at age 96.
04:59 "The House of Windsor has never attempted such an
05:01 appointment like this in its long history,"
05:03 Fordwich explained.
05:04 "Both William and Catherine are known to be introverts
05:07 and are being urged to do more.
05:09 Where has the desire for this position originated from?
05:11 Perhaps as a response to Prince Harry's accusations
05:14 of courtiers wielding too much power while he was
05:16 on an American chat show where he doubted whether
05:18 his grandmother had the right people around her.
05:21 It is also well known that Prince Andrew also resented
05:23 royal courtiers as he had a hand in forcing out
05:26 the Queen's previous private secretary, Sir Christopher Guyt,
05:29 amid concerns regarding his heavy influence over his mother,"
05:32 Fordwich continued.
05:33 "Or perhaps this position is being posted as a response
05:36 to the less than successful Caribbean tour William
05:39 and Catherine undertook last year.
05:40 It may well also be in response to the criticism
05:43 they recently received in response to William's decision
05:46 not to fly to Sydney to watch the Lionesses play
05:48 the World Cup final."
05:50 Fordwich added that the likelihood the Prince
05:52 and Princess of Wales will be visiting the U.S. more,
05:54 as well as all the countries in the Commonwealth,
05:56 will be high.
05:57 The goal is to boost their image globally amid
05:59 the ongoing family drama that has made headlines
06:02 in recent years.
06:03 According to the Sunday Times,
06:04 William has no plans to answer inevitable questions
06:07 about his fractured relationship with his brother.
06:10 The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back
06:12 as senior royals in 2020.
06:14 At the time, they cited what they saw as the media's racist
06:16 treatment of the Duchess and a lack of support
06:18 from the palace.
06:19 After moving to California, the couple aired their grievances
06:22 in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
06:25 In late 2022, their six-part Netflix documentary
06:29 was released, which detailed their love story
06:31 and struggles with royal life.
06:33 Then in January of this year, Prince Harry's memoir,
06:35 Spare, was published.
06:37 It unveiled his longtime rivalry with William,
06:39 the heir to the throne, and the grief he endured
06:41 after the death of their mother, Princess Diana.
06:44 In interviews given to promote the book,
06:46 the Duke of Sussex, 39, accused members of the royal family
06:50 of getting into bed with the devil
06:51 to gain favorable tabloid coverage.
06:53 He singled out his stepmother Camilla's efforts
06:55 to rehabilitate her image with the British people
06:58 after her longtime affair with his father.
07:00 Saterdoti said William's US trip is part
07:03 of a carefully planned evolution
07:04 as he tunes out the tabloid noise.
07:06 "I expect you won't waste much.
07:08 If any, time on discussing his brother,"
07:10 Saterdoti explained.
07:11 "It's unlikely he'll want to be sidetracked
07:13 into the circus of competitive PR and gossip.
07:16 The future king has other matters to deal with.
07:18 He is positioning himself as a global statesman,
07:21 the UK's next head of state.
07:22 He's keen to be seen using his position
07:25 in connection to the big issues of the world.
07:27 That's why his Earthshut Prize is central to his activities
07:30 along with his efforts to tackle homelessness,"
07:32 Saterdoti shared.
07:33 "These are world causes he sees as relevant
07:36 to the future of the world
07:37 and therefore also to him as the future king.
07:39 He seems to be aware of the importance
07:41 of the American public
07:42 and their mostly positive opinion of him.
07:44 He looks comfortable visiting the US regularly."
07:46 William is the next head of state for the UK
07:49 and 15 other countries,
07:50 chimed British royals expert Shannon Felton-Spence.
07:53 "It's important that he builds these relationships
07:56 while he's an apprentice for the role.
07:57 His father did the same thing since the '70s.
08:00 The more that William is seen in the mix of world leaders,
08:02 the more relevant and essential the monarchy seems,"
08:05 she noted.
08:06 The Prince of Wales is meant to be the sparkly mover and shaker while the King is in the
