The entry lists for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have been published, featuring the names of athletes who intend to compete in the French capital when athletics takes place between 1-11 August.
Athletes from some 200 teams will compete across the programme of 48 events, which includes 23 women&rsquo;s disciplines and 23 men&rsquo;s disciplines as well as two mixed events &ndash; the 4x400m mixed relay and the marathon race walk mixed relay.

Among the entries are 36 of the Tokyo Olympic champions in individual events, who will defend their titles at the Stade de France and on the roads of Paris. They include all bar one of the individual defending champions in the men&rsquo;s events and 15 in the women&rsquo;s events.
Faith Kipyegon (1500m), Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (400m hurdles), Karsten Warholm (400m hurdles), Mondo Duplantis (pole vault), Ryan Crouser (shot put) and Anita Wlodarczyk (hammer) are among the world record-holders who return, targeting back-to-back Olympic title triumphs.
Dutch runner Sifan Hassan has been entered in four events. As well as potentially defending her 5000m and 10,000m titles, she could also line up for the 1500m and the marathon.
The youngest athlete entered is Kenaz Kaniwete of Kiribati, who will be 16 years, 4 months and 6 days when he lines up for the first round of the 100m.
Australia&rsquo;s Sinead Diver is the oldest athlete entered. She will be 47 years, 4 months and 24 days on the day of the marathon.
Official start lists will become available after the technical meeting on the eve of the Games.

To celebrate this year&rsquo;s 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the headquarters of World Athletics in Monaco, the World Athletics Heritage Plaque has been jointly awarded to the Principality of Monaco and the Federation Monegasque d&rsquo;Athletisme.
His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco received the plaque from Sebastian Coe, the President of World Athletics, at a ceremony during the Herculis Diamond League meeting on Friday (12).
&ldquo;Despite the small size of the principality and its population, Monaco has consistently punched above its weight as an organiser of major athletics events, delivering a level of organisational excellence which is to be applauded,&rdquo; said Coe. &ldquo;World Athletics is especially grateful to the Monegasque Athletics Federation and its president HSH Prince Albert for their profound and enthusiastic commitment to the promotion and development of our sport. World Athletics has felt very much at home in Monaco during the last three decades. Thank you.&rdquo;

The <a href="https://worldathletics.org/heritage/plaque" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World Athletics Heritage Plaque</a> is a location-based recognition, awarded for &ldquo;an outstanding contribution to the worldwide history and development of the sport of track &amp; field athletics and of out of stadia athletics disciplines such as cross country, mountain, road, trail and ultra-running, and race walking.&rdquo;
The award of the World Athletics Heritage Plaque to Monaco and the Federation Monegasque d&rsquo;Athletisme is respectively made in the categories of &lsquo;City&rsquo; and &lsquo;Competition&rsquo;.
World Athletics specifically salutes Monaco&rsquo;s consistent record of hosting outstandingly successful international athletics events including:

<li>The annual Herculis Diamond League, ranked as the world&rsquo;s best meeting in 1998, 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2020</li>
<li>Two editions of the Grand Prix Final in 1989 and 1995</li>
<li>Three editions of the World Athletics Final in 2003, 2004 and 2005</li>
<li>The World 15km Road Race for Women in 1987</li>
<li>And many other international road events from the marathon down to 5km, at which three world records have been set to date.</li>
</ul>
The plaque will be permanently displayed outside the main entrance to the Stade Louis II.

The Montemuro Vertical Run in Castro Daire, Portugal, welcomes some of the world&rsquo;s top mountain runners on Sunday (14) as it hosts the fourth race of this year's Valsir Mountain Running World Cup.
Now in its fourth edition and third inclusion in the World Cup, this race has rapidly gained a reputation as a classic in the making.
In the women&rsquo;s field, the defending champion Scout Adkin returns following a fourth-place finish last weekend in the rain-soaked and foggy Grossglockner Mountain Run. Her quest for a consecutive victory will be fiercely challenged by Philaries Jeruto Kisang and Gloria Chebet, who finished second and third respectively last weekend.&nbsp;
Joyce Muthoni Njeru is also set to compete in Castro Daire. Fresh from her triumphs at both the Vertical Kilometre and Skyrace at Broken Arrow, she will be aiming to secure more points in the overall World Cup following her fifth-place finish last weekend, currently leading the women's standings after three races.
Susanna Saapunki arrives in Portugal brimming with energy, eager to improve upon her sixth-place finish last weekend in Austria. In 2023, she claimed third at La Montee du Nid d&rsquo;Aigle and secured victories at Smarna Gora and Primiero Dolomiti Trail. Alongside her, Camila Magliano, who finished fourth here last year and achieved a sixth place at Montee du Nid d&rsquo;Aigle as well as a fourth and third at Canfranc-Canfranc, will undoubtedly be battling for a top position.
Other notable contenders include Charlotte Cotton, Florencia Milanesi&nbsp; and Maria Benito.
In the men&rsquo;s race, one of the break-out stars of the European Championships, Lukas Ehrle, heads to Montemuro for a second World Cup race after finishing third in the European uphill race, second in the up &amp; down, and fifth in the Grossglockner Mountain Run. He also ran 10,000m in 29:09.48 in April.
Remi Leroux comes into this race with two top 10 finishes at Broken Arrow two weeks ago and a 14th place at the start of his European tour. He was also one of the break-out stars of last year&rsquo;s World Cup competition with his second place here at Montemuro Vertical Run, a second at Canfranc Canfranc Vertical and a fourth at the classic race at Canfranc.&nbsp;
Cesare Maestri, a well-known runner in the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup with great results like a third place at last&rsquo;s year Fletta Trail, this year ran the Lille half marathon in 1:03:28.
Ephantus Mwangi Njeri, who finished 11th last weekend, will also be a strong contender together with the French athlete Alric Petit, who finished fourth here last year.
When racing the Montemuro Vertical Run, athletes will face a demanding 10.2km ascent to the summit of Fragas do Inferno (1317m) in the Serra do Montemuro, with a total elevation gain of 1090m.
The competitive route starts at Parada de Ester (Castro Daire) and finishes at Fragas do Inferno, in an almost constant climb from the vicinity of the Paiva river to the summit of the Serra do Montemuro.
A mountain route of rare beauty where, as you gain altitude, the participant will have the opportunity to view at the Estrela, Gralheira and Caramulo massifs and, once the goal is reached, at the Douro valley and reliefs to the north of this great river.

Gong Lijiao will defend her Olympic shot put title as part of China&rsquo;s team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from 1-11 August.
A two-time world champion, Gong also claimed Olympic silver from London and bronze from Beijing.
She will be joined on the team in Paris by Zhu Yaming, who claimed triple jump silver in Tokyo, plus hammer silver medallist Wang Zheng and 20km race walk bronze medallist Liu Hong, who won the Olympic title in 2016.
Competing alongside Liu in the race walk will be 2017 world champion Yang Jiayu, while 2022 world champions Feng Bin and Wang Jianan are entered for the discus and long jump respectively.

Chinese team announced for Paris Olympics

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Hansle Parchment are among the global champions who feature on Jamaica&rsquo;s team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Fraser-Pryce claimed 100m titles at both the 2008 and 2012 Games and secured 100m silver in Tokyo. Jackson, a two-time world 200m champion, claimed 100m bronze behind Fraser-Pryce in Tokyo and in Paris she is entered for both the 100m and 200m.
Parchment will defend his 110m hurdles title, while Kishane Thompson, who won the national 100m title in 9.77, will contest that sprint event.
World U20 champion Jaydon Hibbert is entered for the triple jump and Danniel Thomas-Dodd, the 2019 world silver medallist, is confirmed for the shot put.

Jamaica names team for Paris Olympic Games

Olympic champions Valarie Allman, Ryan Crouser, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone&nbsp;and Katie Moon&nbsp;are among the 120 athletes named on the US team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from 1-11 August.&nbsp;
Allman and Crouser will defend their titles in the discus and shot put respectively, while McLaughlin-Levrone will look for back-to-back wins in the 400m hurdles and Moon will seek another gold in the pole vault.
Noah Lyles will look to add an Olympic gold medal to his haul of six world titles when he contests the 100m, 200m and relay.
Other global medallists joining them on the team include sprinters Sha'Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas, hurdlers Grant Holloway and Rai Benjamin, and hepathlete Anna Hall.

The Wanda Diamond League <a href="https://worldathletics.org/news/preview/monaco-herculis-2024-sedjati-lyles-alfred-warholm-caudery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues on Friday (12) in Monaco with the ninth meeting of the season</a>.
Fields full of global champions, world record-holders and top-class clashes will feature at the Herculis EBS &ndash; the penultimate Diamond League meeting before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Karsten Warholm, Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos renew their rivalry in the 400m hurdles, while Jessica Hull, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Julien Alfred, Grant Holloway and Katie Moon are also among the stars competing.
The action will start at 19:00 local time (GMT+2) with the women's javelin and the main two-hour broadcast window will begin at 20:00 local time with the men's 400m hurdles.

At a ceremony held at the MOWA World Indoor Athletics Exhibition in the St. Enoch Centre, Glasgow, on 2 March, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe announced that a <a href="https://worldathletics.org/heritage/news/flying-scotsman-eric-liddell-world-athletics-heritage-plaque" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World Athletics Heritage Plaque would be awarded in the posthumous category of 'Legend' to 'The Flying Scotsman' Eric Liddell</a>.
Thursday (11) marks the centenary of Liddell&rsquo;s 400m victory in the Paris 1924 Olympic Games. The anniversary is being marked this year by the charity The Eric Liddell Community, which aims to bring his achievements to life and to inspire new generations to make a positive impact on their community, their society and their world through &lsquo;<a href="https://ericliddell.org/the-eric-liddell-100/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Eric Liddell 100</a>&rsquo;.
<h2>The bravest of Scots</h2>
As the six competitors prepared to take their marks for the Olympic men&rsquo;s 400m final at Stade Colombes on the afternoon of 11 July 1924, the hush was temporarily broken by the Cameron Highlanders marching band striking up a swift rendition of &lsquo;Scotland the Brave&rsquo;.
There could not have been a more fitting note on which to herald one of the classic moments in track and field history, immortalised in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire with its memorable Vangelis theme-track.
Throughout his cruelly shortened life, Liddell was the bravest of Scots.
In his short track career, he stuck steadfastly to his Christian beliefs that Sundays should be a day of rest when the qualifying rounds for his favoured event, the 100m, were scheduled for the Sabbath at the Paris Olympics.
Amidst criticism from the press and the public, and pressure from the British Olympic Association, the Edinburgh University student &ndash; who was born in China, where his father worked as a Protestant missionary &ndash; refused to contemplate competing on a Sunday, taking up the 400m as his main event instead.
He ultimately sacrificed himself for his religion, perishing in a Japanese internment camp in 1945, aged just 43, after serving himself as a Christian missionary in perilous times in China.

<h2>200m bronze</h2>
When the pipes of the Cameron Highlanders faded into the Parisian air 100 years ago, Liddell proceeded to bolt from his starting holes like a man possessed and seized the day, and the Olympic 400m gold medal, in breathtaking fashion.
With his ungainly style &ndash; running with his head tilted back, facing heavenward, his mouth agape &ndash; and his lack of experience in the quarter mile, he was not regarded as a leading contender for the 400m crown, even after he claimed a bronze medal in the 200m, behind the US sprinters Jackson Scholz and Charley Paddock.
Many saw his refusal to compete on a Sunday as a sign of weakness in a man with a soft centre &ndash; indeed, such a gentle soul that he made a point of walking across to his rivals and shaking their hands before the 400m final got under way on the horseshoe-shaped 500m Colombes track.
<h2>&ldquo;He must crack before the end&rdquo;</h2>
In the preliminary rounds, two of those rivals had run the fastest times on record for the metric 400m (as opposed to 440 yards). Josef Imbach, a Swiss locksmith, clocked 48.0 in the quarterfinals and Horatio Fitch, an engineering graduate from the University of Illinois, ran 47.8 in the semifinals.
Liddell won his semifinal in 48.2. &ldquo;Despite the times the others had put up, I felt fairly confident,&rdquo; he later reflected. &ldquo;I had been running well within myself, and I felt absolutely keyed up to run the race of my life.&rdquo;
Which the 22-year-old proceeded to do &ndash; in the arena where he had made the first of seven appearances as a wing three-quarter for the Scottish rugby union team two years previously.
Running in the outside lane, the flying Scot reached halfway in 22.2, just 0.3 slower than his bronze medal-winning time in the 200m final.
Sitting in the stands opposite the finish line, a stunned Harold Abrahams, winner of the 100m and a disappointing sixth in the 200m, thought his Great Britain teammate had blown his chance.
&ldquo;He went off at such a terrific pace that it seemed as if he must crack before the end,&rdquo; said Abrahams. &ldquo;It seemed impossible that he should last the distance.&rdquo;

<h2>&ldquo;I run the first 200m as hard as I could&rdquo;</h2>
Upon learning of the Olympic timetable the previous November, Liddell had trained methodically for the 400m under the shrewd guidance of Tom McKerchar.
The wily Edinburgh University coach had drawn upon the stunning speed endurance Liddell showed when making up the numbers for Scotland in a 440 yards race against England and Ireland at Stoke in 1923; his charge fell at the start but retrieved a 20-yard deficit to win by 6 yards.
And such was Liddell&rsquo;s basic speed, the 9.7 he clocked for the 100 yards at the AAA Championships stood as a British record for 35 years. Abrahams&rsquo; best legal time at the distance was 9.9. He only raced Liddell twice, finishing 0.4 behind on both occasions: in the 220 yards semifinals at the AAA Championships in 1923 and in the Olympic 200m final in Paris.
Over the second half of the Olympic 400m final, instead of fading, Liddell found a second wind, and then a third. He broke the tape in 47.6, a world record*, with Fitch a distant second in 48.4.
&ldquo;I run the first 200m as hard as I could,&rdquo; Liddell said of his approach to the one-lap event. &ldquo;Then, for the second 200m, with God&rsquo;s help, I run harder.&rdquo;
&ldquo;Fitch and the others may as well have been chasing an antelope startled into top speed,&rdquo; wrote Grantland Rice, whose report for the New York Herald Tribune also described Liddell as having been propelled by &ldquo;some divine power.&rdquo;
Two days later Liddell was preaching from the pulpit at the Scots Kirk in Paris. The Bible text he read was from Psalm 119.18: &ldquo;Open thou mine eyes, that I might behold wondrous things.&rdquo;
<h2>Kept on running</h2>
Two years later Liddell joined his father in China and started working as a Christian missionary. He periodically dusted down his old running spikes, reportedly clocking 47.8 for 400m in 1928, the same as Ray Barbuti&rsquo;s winning time in the Olympic final in Amsterdam that year.
He also ran two exhibition races in Tientsin against Otto Peltzer, holder of the 800m and 1500m world records, winning comfortably over 400m and finishing 0.1 behind the German over 800m.
Even in the squalor of Weihsien Internment Camp, the humble Liddell would be prevailed upon to take part in races around the compound &ndash; the last of them in August 1944, when he was a frail shadow of his former self.
Unknown to the Olympic champion of two decades previously, he was suffering from the brain tumour that was to kill him six months later. The Scottish braveheart still led for most of the way and finished up second.

The teenager won the 1500m and 5000m double at the European U20 Championships last year, then went on to reach the World Championships 1500m final in Budapest, clocking a senior national record of 3:31.25.
Fresh from breaking the world U20 1000m record in Hengelo, Laros is now excited to be heading to the Olympic Games in Paris.

"My father was an athlete and he missed qualifying for the Olympics by eight hundredths of a second," explains Laros. "When I was young, I heard that story and I immediately thought I want to be the guy who makes it. So it means a lot to now be heading to an Olympic Games.
"It's always been a dream. I used to think that Paris would come too soon, but I'm really happy with the progress I've made and that I can compete in Paris.
"I'm very excited for what's to come this season," he adds. "It's the Olympics, the highest stage of all, and I'm really looking forward to competing there."

‘SPRINT’ among top 10 most-watched Netflix shows in first week of release

Fields full of global champions,&nbsp;world record-holders&nbsp;and top-class clashes will feature at the Herculis EBS &ndash; the penultimate Wanda Diamond League meeting before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games &ndash; in Monaco on Friday (12).
Just five days on from the Diamond League meeting in the French capital, where <a href="https://worldathletics.org/competitions/diamond-league/news/meeting-de-paris-diamond-league-2024-world-record" target="_blank" rel="noopener">world records by Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Faith Kipyegon were among the performances that lit up the Stade Charlety</a>, some of the sport&rsquo;s biggest stars head to the Stade Louis II where they will be looking to make some statements of their own.
The top three on the world all-time list &ndash; Norway's world record-holder Karsten Warholm, USA's Rai Benjamin and&nbsp;Brazil&rsquo;s Alison dos Santos&nbsp;&ndash; all clash in the men's 400m hurdles. It's the first time the trio will meet since the Diamond League final in Eugene last year, won by&nbsp;Benjamin in 46.39 ahead of Warholm, and should prove to be a perfect Paris Olympics preview.
Olympic and world champion&nbsp;Warholm set a meeting record &ndash; which at that time was also a Diamond League record &ndash; when winning in Monaco in 46.51 last year. The&nbsp;2022 world gold medallist&nbsp;Dos Santos was second on that occasion but he is unbeaten in his specialist event so far this year, with all those victories coming on the Diamond League stage &ndash; in Doha, Stockholm, Paris and Oslo, where he beat Warholm. For Olympic silver medallist Benjamin, this is a first Diamond League event of the year following his wins in Los Angeles in May and at the US Olympic trials in a world-leading 46.46.
It was in Monaco's mile last year that Kipyegon set another of her world records, at a meeting that has become known as a middle-distance mecca. This year&rsquo;s programme includes the men&rsquo;s 800m and after the world all-time list was subject to serious revision in Paris, Monaco offers a rematch.
Kenya&rsquo;s Emmanuel Wanyonyi became the then third-fastest 800m runner in history at the Kenyan Olympic trials in Nairobi last month, running 1:41.70 to put him behind only world record-holder David Rudisha (1:40.91) and Wilson Kipketer (1:41.11). He went even faster in Paris with 1:41.58, but remarkably that wasn&rsquo;t enough to win the race and he was even almost pipped into third. Algeria&rsquo;s Djamel Sedjati ran 1:41.56 and Gabriel Tual of France clocked 1:41.61 in a race of historic depth, and Sedjati, Wanyonyi and Tual now respectively sit third, fourth and fifth on the world all-time list.
While&nbsp;Wanyonyi is no longer among the entries, Sedjati and Tual clash again in Monaco and this time they are joined by Canada&rsquo;s Marco Arop, who got world gold in Budapest last year. After winning at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen and at the Canadian Championships, and with his place for the Olympic Games now secured, Arop will be looking for another strong run as he takes on a field that also features world bronze medallist Ben Pattison, Benjamin Robert and Andreas Kramer, who improved his Swedish record in Paris. The meeting record stands at 1:41.98.

Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull was another of the stars of Paris as she set an Oceanian 1500m record of 3:50.83 when finishing second behind Kipyegon&rsquo;s world record, becoming the fifth-fastest of all time. Hull will take on the 2000m in Monaco against athletes including Ethiopia&rsquo;s two-time world indoor silver medallist Axumawit Embaye, Kenya&rsquo;s Edinah Jebitok and Ciara Mageean, who will be back on the track on which she set her Irish record when finishing second behind Kipyegon&rsquo;s world mile record last year.
In the men&rsquo;s 1500m, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will also be looking for a pre-Paris boost as he follows his 1500m and 5000m golden doubles at the European Championships and Norwegian Championships by contesting the shorter event back on the Diamond League stage.&nbsp;
He won the 1500m in Oslo in a world-leading 3:29.74 ahead of Kenya&rsquo;s Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot and Azeddine Habz of France at the end of May and the trio meet again in Monaco, where they will also face USA&rsquo;s Yared Nuguse, Norway&rsquo;s Narve Gilje Nordas and Niels Laros of the Netherlands, who set a world U20 1000m record in Hengelo on Sunday.
The women&rsquo;s 5000m features Ethiopia&rsquo;s Tsigie Gebreselama, who won in Eugene in a world-leading 14:18.76, against her compatriots Marta Alemayo, Likina Amebaw and Aynadis Mebratu, plus Nadia Battocletti, who set an Italian record of 14:35.29 to win the European title as part of a 5000m and 10,000m double.
<h2>Top track match-ups</h2>
In the 110m hurdles, USA's three-time world champion Grant Holloway returns to the Diamond League for the first time since his win in Eugene in May. He&nbsp;will want to maintain his unbeaten streak this season but Jamaican champion Rasheed Broadbell and Sasha Zhoya of France &ndash; who equalled his PB of 13.15 to win in Paris &ndash; will also be on the hunt for confidence-boosting performances. USA's Trey Cunningham adds further strength to the field.
Holloway, who set a world lead of 12.86 at the end of last month, won in Monaco in 12.99 in 2022 and the meeting record of 12.92 set by Aries Merritt in 2012 could be within reach.
The women&rsquo;s 100m is the final track event on the programme and another top-quality field will be looking to ensure things end on a high. Saint Lucia&rsquo;s world indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred, who ran a national record of 10.78 in Kingston last month, lines up alongside USA&rsquo;s Tamari Davis, Britain&rsquo;s Dina Asher-Smith and Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote d&rsquo;Ivoire.
Botswana&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Letsile Tebogo, who ran 19.71 in Nairobi in April, tops the entry list for a men's 200m no longer featuring six-time world gold medallist Noah Lyles. He takes on Uganda's Tarsis Orogot, who set a national record of 19.75 in Gainesville in May, and Dominican Republic's Alexander Ogando.
Rhasidat Adeleke, who improved the Irish 400m record to 49.07 at the European Championships, takes on USA&rsquo;s Kendall Ellis, Alexis Holmes and Shamier Little, plus Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands, over one lap.
In the men&rsquo;s race, Canada&rsquo;s 19-year-old Christopher Morales Williams &ndash; who ran the fastest ever indoor 400m back in February &ndash; makes his Diamond League debut as part of a field that features USA's Quincy Hall and Vernon Norwood, plus Bayapo Ndori of Botswana.
<h2>World champions collide</h2>
Another great clash comes in the women&rsquo;s pole vault, where world champions Nina Kennedy, Katie Moon and Molly Caudery all compete.

Australia&rsquo;s Kennedy and USA&rsquo;s Moon shared world gold in Budapest last year, while Britain&rsquo;s Caudery vaulted to the world indoor title in March, and it&rsquo;s Caudery who leads the world top list so far this season thanks to the national record of 4.92m she set in Toulouse last month. Moon is just behind her on 4.85m, while Kennedy has cleared 4.80m this year. Joining them in the field are Switzerland's Angelica Moser and Canada's Alysha Newman.
World leader Gianmarco Tamberi is among the entries for the high jump, alongside world indoor champion Hamish Kerr, 2022 world indoor gold medallist Woo Sanghyeok and world silver medallist JuVaughn Harrison. Italy&rsquo;s Olympic and world champion Tamberi cleared 2.37m in Rome last month but decided not to jump at his most recent competition in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday as a precaution.
In the women&rsquo;s triple jump, Dominica&rsquo;s world leader Thea LaFond, who leapt 15.01m to win the world indoor title in Glasgow, will go up against Spain&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallist Ana Peleteiro-Compaore, who jumped 14.85m to win the European title, plus Leyanis Perez Hernandez, Shanieka Ricketts and Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk, making her season debut in the discipline.&nbsp;
The women&rsquo;s javelin kicks off Friday&rsquo;s competition and pits Japan's world champion Haruka Kitaguchi against world bronze medallist Mackenzie Little and European champion Victoria Hudson.

Rematches and global champions on show in Monaco

Julien Alfred, Ethan Katzberg and Leonardo Fabbri were among the notable winners at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial &ndash; the final World Athletics Tour Gold meeting ahead of the Olympic Games &ndash; in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday (9).
All three displayed the kind of form that could carry them to their first Olympic medal in Paris next month. Several other gold medallists from the Tokyo Olympic Games &ndash; including Andre De Grasse, Steven Gardiner and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn &ndash; returned to Szekesfehervar and won again.
But it was a frustrating competition for two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson. Like many others in action this evening, the Jamaican had been hoping to produce a performance that would boost her confidence ahead of the Games. Following a slow start to the season, she appeared to be rounding into form at the right time with a double sprint win at the recent Jamaican Championships.
After a strong start, Jackson came off the bend in the lead and appeared to be on her way to a fourth 200m win in Szekesfehervar, but she pulled up injured in the closing stages as world indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred came through to win in a season&rsquo;s best of 22.16.
Britain&rsquo;s Daryll Neita was second (22.36) and Jamaica&rsquo;s Lanae-Tava Thomas third (22.54) as Jackson walked across the line in pain.
Jackson's fellow world champion Gianmarco Tamberi also had a frustrating evening. The Olympic and European champion from Italy picked up an injury to his femoral bicep during warm-up for the men's high jump, so he withdrew as a precaution.
"I hope it&rsquo;s nothing serious, but the truth is that 30 days from the Olympics even a crooked hair is serious," said Tamberi after withdrawing from a competition won by Dmytro Nikitin with 2.24m. "I hope with all my heart that I'll be able to get back on the ground soon to continue pursuing what I've been working for every single day for the past three years now."
World champion Ethan Katzberg extended his winning streak in the hammer, beating many of the big contenders he&rsquo;ll be up against at the Olympic Games in Paris.
The Canadian took an early lead with 80.38m in round one before improving to 81.81m in round two and then 81.87m in round three. Ukraine&rsquo;s Mykhaylo Kokhan was the only other man beyond 80 metres, throwing 80.50m, while Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki was third with 79.36m.

Leonardo Fabbri was another thrower to keep their winning streak alive. The European champion from Italy dominated the shot put and produced the three best throws of the competition, opening with 21.80m, improving to 22.22m in round four and then rounding out his series with 22.43m. USA&rsquo;s Jordan Geist was second with 21.72m.
<h2>Olympic champions take repeat wins</h2>
In the sprints, there were victories from three Olympic gold medallists who have previously won at this meeting.
Olympic 400m champion Steven Gardiner achieved his sixth victory in Szekesfehervar, holding off a late charge from Jamaica&rsquo;s Sean Bailey. The Bahamian sprinter produced a controlled and well-timed effort to wan in 44.50 to Bailey&rsquo;s 44.64. Lythe Pillay was further back in third (45.24).
In the women&rsquo;s 110m hurdles, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn trailed 2019 world champion Nia Ali over the first few barriers, but the Puerto Rican came through in the closing stages to win in 12.47 (-0.2m/s). Ali held on for second (12.54) ahead of Ecuador&rsquo;s Maribel Caicedo (12.69).
Andre De Grasse &ndash; who, like Gardiner and Camacho-Quinn, won in Szekesfehervar just a few weeks before striking gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021 &ndash; returned to the Hungarian city to win the men&rsquo;s 200m. The Canadian was just 0.01 away from matching his winning time from three years ago, clocking a season&rsquo;s best of 19.98 to finish 0.39 ahead of Jamaica&rsquo;s Andrew Hudson.
World leader Kishane Thompson backed up his recent victory at the Jamaican Trials with his first win of the year outside his home country.
The 23-year-old, who clocked 9.77 in Kingston last month, was a comfortable winner of the 100m in Szekesfehervar, winning in 9.91 (-0.6m/s). He would have taken great confidence from the fact that he finished comfortably ahead of world silver medallist Letsile Tebogo (9.99) and multiple global championships finalist Akani Simbine (10.01).

Tamari Davis, seeking redemption after her fourth-place finish at the US Olympic Trials, won the women&rsquo;s 100m in 11.00, beating Jamaica&rsquo;s Tia Clayton (11.06).
Trey Cunningham &ndash; who, like Davis, missed out on Olympic selection at the highly competitive US Trials &ndash; was a convincing winner of the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles in 13.21 from US compatriot Cordell Tinch (13.35).
<h2>Alekna and Tentoglou salvage victory</h2>
The three big hitters in the men&rsquo;s discus &ndash; world record-holder Mykolas Alekna, European champion Kristjan Ceh and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl &ndash; looked as though they were on course for a shock defeat up until the final two rounds.
Lithuania&rsquo;s 2017 world champion Andrius Gudzius threw a season&rsquo;s best of 66.57m in round three to give him the lead. At the end of round four, Gudzius still held pole position ahead of Alekna and Ceh.
But Ceh then unleashed a throw of 67.99m to take a short-lived lead before Alekna leapfrogged him with 68.28m. The Lithuanian then extended his lead in the final round with 70.20m.
In the long jump, world and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou almost didn&rsquo;t make the cut for the top eight, as he had a best of just 7.65m after round two. But the Greek then sailed out to 8.18m in round three to move into the lead ahead of Mattia Furlani, the Italian teenager Tentoglou beat to the European title last month.
Tentoglou then improved to 8.23m (-0.6m/s) in round four to consolidate his lead. No one else jumped beyond eight metres in the second half of the competition.
Colombia&rsquo;s Natalia Linares won the women&rsquo;s long jump with a final-round PB of 6.87m (-1.2m/s), which carried her into the lead ahead of Ackelia Smith (6.83m).
Elsewhere, Asian record-holder Kemi Adekoya won the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles in 54.13.
