Timothy Roger Costo (born February 16,1969) is an American former Major League Baseball player. Mainly a career first baseman,Costo played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1992 and 1993.
Costo was a first round draft pick (8th overall) in the 1990 Amateur Draft. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. He had a nine-year minor League career,in the farm system for the Indians,the Cincinnati Reds,the St. Louis Cardinals,and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the first strikeout of Pedro Martinez’Hall of Fame career.
In 2007,he was inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. [1]
Costo was born on February 16,1969,in Melrose Park,IL. [2] He attended the University of Iowa,where he played baseball from 1988 to 1990. [1]
He lives in Chattanooga,Tennessee,where he is the head baseball coach at The McCallie School.

He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1959 to 1980 for four teams,spending almost all of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. A two-time All-Star,he helped the Cardinals to the 1964 World Series title,batting .478 in the Series,including a three-run home run in the tenth inning to win Game 5. In 1966,he became the first catcher since the 19th century to lead the National League (NL) in triples with 13. McCarver was runner-up for the 1967 NL Most Valuable Player Award,behind teammate Orlando Cepeda,after batting .295 and leading NL catchers in assists and fielding percentage.

He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher from 1992 through 2005,most notably as a member of the Seattle Mariners where he played 12 of his 14 seasons. The 1996 All-Star selection began his career with the Cincinnati Reds before being traded to the Mariners where,he was regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in major-league history. At the time of his retirement in 2005,Wilson held the American League record for career fielding percentage by a catcher.
