Taylor Thornton is an NCAA women's lacrosse player who won the Honda Sports Award in June 2012 [1] [2] and was nominated for the Sports Illustrated College Athlete of the Year Award in 2013. She is an alum of Northwestern University who played for the Northwestern Wildcats.
Born Taylor Alexis Thornton in Dallas, Texas. She is the Daughter of Steve and Janice Thornton with one brother Blakely, who played football at the University of Pennsylvania.
Recruited by Kelly Amonte Hiller, head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats women's lacrosse team, Thornton committed to Northwestern in October of her senior year of high school. [3] She made her debut in 2010 starting all 22 games for the Wildcats. In her freshman year, she was named IWLCA third-team All-American, earned second team All America honors for WomensLacrosse.com and was named to the All-Rookie Team. [4] She led the Wildcats with 29 caused turnovers and was second on the team with 38 ground balls. During her sophomore season, in 2011, Taylor established herself as a top player and premier one-on-one defender for the Wildcat team. She was named First-team IWLCA All-American and IWLCA Division I Defender of the Year. [5] She notched 14 goals, 1 assist, 38 ground balls, and 15 caused turnovers. [4] In 2012 she was named as a Tewaaraton award finalist. [6] Thornton was named the winner of Lacrosse Honda Sports Award as the national player of the year. [2] In 2013 Thornton was co-captain. She started all 85 games of her career. With 24 goals, 2 assists, 38 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers heading into playoffs.

Originally played by indigenous peoples of the Americas, the modern women's game was introduced in 1890 at the St Leonard's School in St Andrews, Scotland. The rules of women's lacrosse differ significantly from men's field lacrosse. The two are often considered to be different sports with a common root.
The Florida Gators women's lacrosse team represents the University of Florida in the sport of college lacrosse. The Gators compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and are single-sport members of the American Athletic Conference, which they joined in 2018 after four seasons in the Big East Conference. Before joining Big East women's lacrosse, the Gators were members of the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC), which folded after the 2014 season due to aftereffects of conference realignment. The Northwestern Wildcats women's lacrosse team is an NCAA Division I college lacrosse team representing Northwestern University as part of the Big Ten Conference. It was a member of the American Lacrosse Conference until the 2013-14 season, when the conference was dissolved as the Big Ten was sponsoring women's lacrosse from the 2014-15 season. The team began competition at the varsity level in 1982, operated as a club sport from 1993 to 2001, and resumed play at the varsity level in 2002. They play their home games at Lakeside Field in Evanston, IL. From 2005 to 2009, the team won the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship five consecutive times and recorded two undefeated seasons. After losing in the finals in 2010, the Wildcats added their sixth and seventh championships in 2011 and 2012. The midwestern team's success is a rarity in a sport that enjoys most of its popularity on the East Coast - the Wildcats are the only team from outside the Eastern Time Zone to win the national title.

Hannah Nielsen is the current head coach of the University of Michigan women’s lacrosse team. She was formerly the first women's lacrosse assistant coach at the University of Colorado. Originally from the Brighton Lacrosse Club in Adelaide, Nielsen played for the Northwestern University Wildcats, and won four national championships as a player. She was a three-time All-American, and is a winner of both the Tewaaraton Trophy and Honda Sports Award in her junior and senior seasons. She holds NCAA records for career assists, assists in a season, and assists in single game.
The North Carolina Tar Heels women's lacrosse team represents the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women's lacrosse and currently competes as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The North Carolina women's lacrosse team won the ACC tournament in 2002 and their first Division 1 National Championship in 2013.
Marcus Holman is an American professional lacrosse player for the Archers Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League, and an assistant coach for the Utah Utes men's lacrosse team. Holman was an attackman for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. He was UNC's all-time leading scorer until Joey Sankey surpassed him during the 2015 season.
Tucker Durkin is an American Professional lacrosse player who played high school lacrosse at La Salle College High School and collegiately at Johns Hopkins University. He currently plays for the Atlas Lacrosse Club, and wears #51. Durkin also is an assistant coach for the Drexel Men’s Lacrosse program. Durkin was drafted #3 overall to the Hamilton Nationals, who later became the Florida Launch in Major League Lacrosse. He then joined the Atlas Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League, founded in 2019 by Paul Rabil.
Taylor Cummings is a lacrosse midfielder, formerly for the University of Maryland's women's lacrosse team. Winning the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2014, 2015, and 2016, Cummings was once regarded as the best female collegiate lacrosse player in the country. She helped the Maryland Terrapins win two National Championships in 2014 and in 2015.
Katie Schwarzmann is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Maryland Terrapins at the collegiate level, she was a two-time winner of the Tewaaraton Trophy. She was also a member of the US national team from 2010 to 2013. In 2016, she was selected first overall in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League draft, selected by the Baltimore Ride.
Michelle Tumolo is an American women's lacrosse coach and former player. She has been the Head Coach of the Army Black Knights women's lacrosse team since 2021. After playing with the Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015–16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Philly Force as their first-ever draft pick in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft.
Kayla Treanor is an American women’s lacrosse coach for the Syracuse University Women's Lacrosse team. Prior to this position, she was an assistant coach for Harvard and Boston College.
Jennifer Anne Russell is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the North Carolina Tar Heels at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015-16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Boston Storm with their second pick overall in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft.
Alex Aust is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Maryland Terrapins at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015-16 season and is currently still an active member, wearing jersey number 10. In 2016, she was selected by the Baltimore Ride with their second pick overall in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft.

Leonard graduated from Northwestern as the NCAA draw control record holder.

Smith concluded her collegiate career at Northwestern University as their all-time leading goal scorer with 254, three-time IWLCA first-team All-American, three-time All-ALC first-team choice, and a two-time MVP of the NCAA Championship.
