Suzanne "Suzy" Powell-Roos (born September 3, 1976) is an American discus thrower. She competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2008 Olympics with the best result of 15th place in 2000. [1] [3]

She holds the American record at 222 ft 0 in (67.67 m), which she set on March 14, 2007 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii at the "Big Wind" Discus Challenge. [4] [5] She set the world's best year performance in 2002, with a throw of 69.44 meters at the University of California, San Diego on April 27, 2002, [6] the best throw in the world since 1999. That throw was not ratified as the American record due to technical issues with the throwing sector. [7]

While in high school at Thomas Downey High School in 1994 she was named the national Girl's "High School Athlete of the Year" by Track and Field News [8] after setting the National High School Record in the discus at 214' 0" As a sophomore, she was on the American team at the IAAF World Junior Championships, finishing tenth. Two years later she took home a bronze medal from the same event. [9] She was the 1995 Pan American Junior Championships gold medalist. She later attended UCLA. She won the 1996 and 2007 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships (1996 while winning the United States Olympic Trials (track and field). [10] She was the runner up six times.

Dallas Crutcher Long was an American track and field athlete, who mostly competed in the shot put. Between 1959 and 1964 he set six official and five unofficial world records. His first was at the 1959 Santa Barbara Easter Relays, the last in 1964 in the USA vs USSR dual meet. Long attended the University of Southern California. He competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics, where he won a bronze medal behind fellow Americans Bill Nieder and Parry O'Brien. One of his coaches was Frantisek (Frank) Louda, an American-Czech who had held the European hammer throw record in the 1930s. Long returned four years later to Tokyo for the 1964 Summer Olympics and won a gold medal. Domestically he won the AAU title in 1961 and the NCAA title in 1960–62.

Seilala Maria Sua is a discus thrower from the United States. Her personal best throw is 65.90 metres, achieved in July 2000 in Sacramento, California.

Marjorie Lea Larney is a retired American track and field athlete known for throwing events. She represented the United States in the javelin throw at the 1952 Olympics, finishing 13th after being in 8th place after the qualifying round. She was only 15 years old at the time. She returned to the Olympics in 1956 to place 11th. Later she attended Queens College. She won the National Championships in the javelin five times, in 1952 and 1957–60, as well as the 1952 Olympic Trials, by almost 3 meters. She also won the National Championships in the discus throw in 1954 and was the first American in 1955. She represented the Queens Mercurettes for most of her career. She won a silver medal in the javelin and a bronze medal in the discus at the 1959 Pan American Games. She had finished out of the medals at the 1955 Pan American Games.

Brooke Andersen is an American track and field athlete known for throwing events. Her personal best in the hammer throw of 80.17 m (263 ft 0 in), set May 20, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona, ranks her as the #3 thrower of all time. Her personal best weight throw is 25.07 m. On July 17, 2022, at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Brooke Andersen won the gold medal with a hammer throw of 78.96 m.

Arturo "Art" Venegas is a former track and field coach, specializing in the throwing events. During his coaching career, Venegas led 63 athletes to conference titles, and he coached 33 throwers to NCAA championships. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) said that he "left an indelible mark on the sport of track & field for over 40 years".
