Sony Music Entertainment India Pvt. Ltd. is the record label operated by Sony in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The company began operation in 1997, and it was the first record company in India to be 100% foreign-owned, with Sony being a Japanese corporation. From December 2013 to March 2020, the company distributed Warner Music Group releases for Indian and SAARC market, until the Warner Music India division was created. [2] Sony Music India is the largest foreign-owned music label in India, and the country's second largest record label overall. It has a 25% share of the Indian music market, after T-Series, and ahead of Zee Music Company, which Sony has a partnership with. [3] [4]
Sony Music South is affiliated with Sony Music India and it is specifically made for South Indian movie and independent albums. They are currently working out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

EMI Group Limited was a British transnational conglomerate founded in March 1931 in London. At the time of its acquisition by Universal Music in 2012, it was the fourth largest business group and record label conglomerate in the music industry, and was one of the "Big Four" record companies. Its labels included EMI Records, Parlophone, Virgin Records, and Capitol Records, which are now referenced under Universal Music due to their acquisition with the exception of Parlophone, as it is now owned by Warner Music.
A record label or record company is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. It is primarily known for Hindi film soundtracks and Indi-pop music. As of 2014, T-Series is India's largest music record label, with up to a 35% share of the Indian music market, followed by Sony Music India and Zee Music Company. As of October 2024, T-Series also owns and operates the most-viewed and the second most-subscribed YouTube channel, with over 276 million subscribers and 269 billion views. While best known as a music label, T-Series has produced more than 90 films, and is established a leading film production company of Hindi cinema in 2020s.

It is the 2nd oldest music industry organisation in the world that was involved in protecting copyrights of music producers and supporting growth of music entertainment industry.
