The Seattle City Attorney is a non-partisan elected official in Seattle, Washington whose job is to "prosecute people for misdemeanor offenses, defend the city against lawsuits, and gives legal advice to the city". [1] Since 2022, the position has been held by Ann Davison. [2]

Departmental Organization

The City Attorney is the head of the Seattle City Law Department, a branch of the Seattle Municipal Government, and the fourth-largest public law office in Washington. [3] There are approximately 90 staff attorneys and 65 support staff. [4] They are split between four divisions:

The City Attorney receives a salary of $145,000 per year, making them only the 265th highest paid municipal employee (as of 2012). [6] [7]

Deborah Mandel Senn was an American lawyer and politician of the Democratic Party. She was the 7th Washington Insurance Commissioner for two terms from 1993 to 2001. In 2000, in lieu of running for re-election, she ran for the U.S. Senate, losing in the Democratic primary election to Maria Cantwell. In 2004, she unsuccessfully ran for Attorney General, narrowly defeating Mark Sidran by less than 10,000 votes in the primary, but losing to Rob McKenna in the general election. Senn also has been partner in a law firm. She is a first cousin, once-removed of current Washington State Representative Tana Senn.

University of Colorado Law School

The University of Colorado Law School is one of the professional graduate schools within the University of Colorado System. It is a public law school, with more than 500 students attending and working toward a Juris Doctor or Master of Studies in Law. The Wolf Law Building is located in Boulder, Colorado, and is sited on the south side of the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. The law school houses the William A. Wise Law Library, which is a regional archive for federal government materials and is open to the public. United States Supreme Court Justice Wiley Blount Rutledge graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 1922.

The government of Vermont is a republican form of government modeled after the Government of the United States. The Constitution of Vermont is the supreme law of the state, followed by the Vermont Statutes. MRSC's expertise covers a wide range of subjects including municipal law, municipal finance, urban planning, public works, and public management.

Pete Holmes (politician) American lawyer

Peter S. Holmes is an American politician and attorney who served as the Seattle City Attorney from 2010 to 2022. He was elected in November 2009, defeating incumbent Tom Carr by a significant margin. After winning a second term uncontested in 2013, he defeated challenger Scott Lindsay in 2017 with nearly 75% of the vote, but failed to advance from the primary in a bid for a fourth term in the 2021 election.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 Seattle City Attorney election</span>

The 2021 Seattle City Attorney election was held on November 2, 2021. Incumbent City Attorney Pete Holmes sought reelection to a fourth term in office, but came third place in the officially nonpartisan August 3 primary election and failed to advance to the general election, with both Nicole Thomas-Kennedy and Ann Davison finishing ahead of Holmes in the primary. Davison defeated Thomas-Kennedy in the general election.

Ann Davison Sattler is an American attorney and politician who is the Seattle City Attorney. She was elected in November 2021.
