Rachel Margaret Dunn (born 14 November 1982) is an English former international netball player who was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and who has over 250 Netball Superleague appearances. [1] [2]

Domestic career

Dunn played in the Netball Superleague from its beginning in 2005, making over 250 domestic appearances. [1] [2] Dunn has won a record seven Superleague titles as a player. [3]

Dunn started her career at Team Bath, winning titles in 2006, 2007, and 2009. [4] She also played the 2018 season in the Australasian ANZ Championship for the Canterbury Tactix in New Zealand, replacing pregnant Tactix shooter Jodi Brown. [5]

She then moved from Bath to Surrey Storm in 2009, [6] winning back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016. [4]

She followed her long-time teammate and friend Tamsin Greenway to Wasps Netball in 2017 [7] where they won back-to back titles [4] in their first years as a club. Wasps also appeared in the 2019 Grand Final, losing out to Manchester Thunder. Wasps Netball, alongside their partners Wasps Rugby, went into administration in November 2022. [8] [2]

Dunn played her final domestic games as an injury replacement for Celtic Dragons in 2023 [9] and continued through 2024 as part of the Celtic Dragons coaching set up.

International career

Dunn debuted for the England national netball team in 2004 against South Africa and has over 90 caps for England.

She won a Silver medal at the 2010 World Netball Series. [10] then a Gold medal at the 2011 World Netball Series.

She was a member of the team that won Bronze at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 in Melbourne and 2010 in Delhi. [3]

Dunn played for England in the 2011, 2015 and 2019 [11] Netball World Cups, winning a Bronze medal at each tournament. A fan favourite, Dunn's last appearance for England was in the final minutes of the 2019 Netball World Cup. With the Bronze medal secured, the crowd chanted "We want Dunn" until teammate Jo Harten called time to allow her teammate to enter the court for a final send-off. [12]

Personal life

Dunn started playing netball in Year Four at school. Her elite netball career began when she joined Team Bath while attending Bath University. [13] She has never played full-time, balancing her elite netball with a career as a genetic technologist for the NHS. [14] [3]

Tamsin Greenway is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. Between 2006 and 2018 she played in eight Netball Superleague grand finals for three different teams – Team Bath, Surrey Storm and Wasps. During this time she won five Netball Superleague titles as a player and/or coach and a sixth as a director of netball. Greenway also works as a netball pundit for Sky Sports. In 2020, she was appointed head coach of the Scotland national netball team.

Cardiff Dragons are a Welsh netball team based in Cardiff. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were founder members of the league. Their best performance in the Superleague came in 2013 when they finished as runners up to Team Bath. Playing as Celtic Flames, Dragons also played in the 2017 Netball New Zealand Super Club. Cardiff Dragons main partners include the Welsh Netball Association, the Wales national netball team and Cardiff Metropolitan University. Jade Bridget Clarke is an English netball player. Chelsea Pitman is an Australian-born netball player who represented the England National Netball Team internationally until 18 September 2023. In 2024 she was contracted as a training partner and temporary replacement player for the GIANTS Netball playing in the Suncorp Super Netball competition in Australia and announced her retirement during round 9 from all levels of competition. She predominantly played wing attack, but also played goal attack.

Team Bath is an English netball team based at the University of Bath. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were both founder members and the inaugural champions of the league. They were Superleague champions again in 2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10 and 2013, and British Fast5 All-Stars Champions in 2021. The netball team is one of several sports teams based at the University of Bath that use the Team Bath brand name. Others include an association football team and a field hockey team.

She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. Sara Francis-Bayman is an English former netball player and coach from Billinge near Wigan, England. She is currently an Assistant Coach for the West Coast Fever in the Suncorp Super Netball.

Layla Guscoth is an England netball international. She was a member of the England squad that won a bronze medal at the 2019 Netball World Cup. At club level, Guscoth has played for Loughborough Lightning, Hertfordshire Mavericks and Team Bath in the Netball Superleague and for Adelaide Thunderbirds in Suncorp Super Netball. She was a member of the Mavericks team that won the 2011 Netball Superleague. She has captained both Mavericks and Thunderbirds. In 2016 she qualified as a doctor.

Joyce Mvula is a Malawian netball player and winner of two Netball Superleague titles.

Jessica Thirlby is a former England netball international and the current head coach of the England national netball team. As a player, she was a member of the Team Bath squad that won the inaugural 2005–06 Netball Superleague title. She also represented England at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. As a head coach, she guided Team Bath to further Netball Superleague titles in 2008–09, 2009–10 and 2013. In July 2019, Thirlby was appointed head coach of the senior England national netball team.

The 2021 Netball Superleague season was the sixteenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. The season started on 12 February 2021. Manchester Thunder were the defending champions, as they won the 2019 season and the 2020 season was cancelled after three rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the ongoing pandemic, the first nine weeks of matches were held at Studio 001 in Wakefield, and the remaining matches were held at the Copper Box Arena in London. All matches were originally scheduled to be held behind closed doors, though from week 17 onwards, limited numbers of fans were permitted into matches, due to a change in the UK Government guidelines.

Loughborough Lightning were the defending champions, as they won the 2021 season. The season began on 5 February, and ended with the grand final on 5 June.

Laura Malcolm is an English netball player who has been a co-captain of the national team. At club level, she plays for Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Premiership, and has previously played for Netball Superleague teams Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars.

Imogen Allison is an English netball player, who has represented the national side since 2020. At club level, she plays for Manchester Thunder and has previously played for Team Bath & Yorkshire Jets.

The 2023 Netball Superleague season was the eighteenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. Manchester Thunder were the defending champions, as they won the 2022 Grand final. The season began on 11 February and ended with the Grand Final on 11 June. It featured 10 teams following the removal of Wasps in November 2022.
