One on One is the second studio album by British pop singer Yazz. The album was released in April 1994, more than five years after her debut album, Wanted . The album contains the UK top 40 hit single "How Long", a duet with Aswad.
Yazz commenced recording sessions for a second album with Big Life Records in 1989, as the follow-up to Wanted. Following the release of the "Treat Me Good" single (UK No. 20, [3] SUI No. 28, [4] NED No. 48, [5] GER No. 55, [6] AUS No. 100 [7] ) in June 1990, an album titled Revolution of Love was scheduled for release, [8] but was ultimately shelved when Yazz parted with the record company.
Following the release of Yazz's first single with Polydor Records in March 1992, "One True Woman" (UK No. 60 [3] ), an album of the same name was planned for release in May 1992, [9] but was cancelled. Several tracks recorded for this album ended up on One on One, eventually released two years later, although "One True Woman" was not among them.
Three singles were released from the album: a cover version of the Ace song "How Long" (UK No. 31, [3] GER No. 52 [10] ), "Have Mercy" (UK No. 42, [3] GER No. 86 [11] ), and a cover version of The Korgis' "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" (UK No. 56 [3] ). The album failed to chart, however.
Morcheeba are an English electronic band formed in the mid-1990s with founding members vocalist Skye Edwards and the brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey. They mix influences from trip hop, rock, folk rock and downtempo, and have produced ten regular studio albums since 1995, two of which reached the UK top ten. Edwards left the band in 2003, after which the brothers used a number of singers before she rejoined in 2009. They recruit additional members for their live performances and have toured internationally. In 2014 Paul Godfrey resigned from the band. Edwards and Ross Godfrey later formed Skye & Ross and released a self-titled album in September 2016. Their latest studio album as Morcheeba, Blackest Blue, was released in May 2021 and was preceded by singles "Sounds of Blue", "Oh Oh Yeah" and "The Moon". It features collaborations with Brad Barr from The Barr Brothers, and Duke Garwood, whom Edwards described as "a diamond geezer".
Mel and Kim were an English pop duo, consisting of sisters Melanie and Kim Appleby. Originally managed by Alan Whitehead, they achieved success between 1986 and 1988, before Melanie died of cancer in January 1990 at the age of 23.
Alison Moira Clarkson, better known as Betty Boo, is a British singer, songwriter and rapper. She first came to mainstream prominence in the late 1980s following a collaboration with the Beatmasters on the song "Hey DJ/I Can't Dance ". Between 1990 and 1992 she had a successful solo career, which spawned a number of chart-placing singles, most notably "Doin' the Do", "Where Are You Baby?", and "Let Me Take You There".
Adeva is an American singer. She had a string of successful house and R&B hits in the late 1980s to early 1990s, including "Warning!", "I Thank You" and "Respect".
Tasmin Archer is a British pop singer from Bradford, England. Her first album, Great Expectations, spawned the hit "Sleeping Satellite", which reached number one in the United Kingdom and Ireland. She won the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act in 1993 and has since released two more studio albums.
Kim Loraine Appleby is an English pop singer and songwriter. She participated in the duo Mel and Kim with her sister Melanie Appleby
D:Ream are an English pop and dance group. They had a UK No. 1 hit with "Things Can Only Get Better" in 1994. Eight more top 40 hits followed, including "U R the Best Thing" and "Shoot Me with Your Love". Their two 1990s studio albums reached the UK top five.
Jacqueline Graham is a British singer-songwriter. Following her hit version of "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" with David Grant in 1985, Graham scored a further five UK top 20 hits over a two-year period. In 1994, her cover version of Chaka Khan's hit "Ain't Nobody" reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs.
