Matthew James Shaw (born November 6, 2001) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Chicago Cubs organization.
Shaw grew up in Brimfield, Massachusetts and initially attended Wilbraham & Monson Academy before transferring Worcester Academy. [1] He played summer collegiate baseball after graduating high school for the Worcester Bravehearts of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). [2]
As a freshman for the Maryland Terrapins, Shaw was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team after batting .332 with 42 runs scored and 30 RBIs. After the season, he returned to the FCBL and played for the Amsterdam Mohawks. [3] Back with the Terrapins, Shaw was named first team All-Big Ten as a sophomore after batting .290 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs. [4] During the summer of 2022, he played for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he hit .360 and was named the league's MVP. [5] [6] [7] Shaw became Maryland's all-time leader in home runs during his junior season. [8] [9] After the 2023 season, he won the Brooks Wallace Award. [10]
Shaw was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round, with the 13th overall selection, of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft. [11] On July 14, 2023, Shaw signed with the Cubs for the full slot value of $4.85 million. [12] He won the 2024 Southern League Most Valuable Player Award with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies. [13]
Shaw was named to the United States national baseball team for the 2024 WBSC Premier12. [14] He was named to the All-World Team as the best third baseman. He also led the tournament in runs batted in. [15]
Scott David Brosius is an American former professional baseball third baseman for the Oakland Athletics (1991–1997) and the New York Yankees (1998–2001) of Major League Baseball (MLB) who is the athletic director at Linfield University. He was an MLB All-Star in 1998 and won a Gold Glove Award in 1999. Brosius was a member of three consecutive World Series champions with the Yankees from 1998 to 2000 and won the World Series Most Valuable Player Award in 1998.

Matthew Terry Clark is an American former professional baseball first baseman and outfielder. He played for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Chunichi Dragons and Orix Buffaloes (NPB). Before beginning his professional career, he played college baseball at UC Santa Barbara and Louisiana State University.
