Mathrubhumi is a Malayalam newspaper that is published from Kerala, India. It was founded by K. P. Kesava Menon, an active volunteer in the Indian freedom struggle against the British. The word "Mathrubhumi" translates to 'mother land'. It is the second most widely read newspaper daily in Kerala. [2] It publishes a variety of magazines and supplements including the weekly literary magazine, Mathrubhumi Azhchappathippu . [3]

Events

Mathrubhumi celebrated its 100th anniversary on March 18, 2023, at the CIAL Convention Centre in Kochi. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the closing ceremonies, and Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur unveiled the souvenir. [11] [12]

Deshabhimani is a Malayalam newspaper and the organ of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M). It started as a weekly in Kozhikode on 6 September 1942 and converted to a daily in 1946. The paper now has ten different printing centres: Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Alappuzha, Kollam and Malappuram. V. K. Madhavan Kutty was a journalist from the state of Kerala, India. He was long associated with the Mathrubhumi newspaper, a Malayalam daily based out of Kozhikode. He was stationed at New Delhi as Chief of Bureau for most of his career. He was well known among the journalism circles in the capital owing to his astute professionalism and efficiency. He retired as the editor of Mathrubhumi after serving for 40 years. He was also one of the founding directors of the Malayalam satellite channel Asianet. Madhavankutty survived the crash of Indian Airlines Flight 440 on May 31, 1973, which killed Union Minister Mohan Kumaramangalam and several others.

Mithra Kurian, is an Indian actress who works in Malayalam and Tamil films. Her notable works include Bodyguard (2010) and Kaavalan (2011).

Narayanan Nambuthiri Kakkad, commonly known as N. N. Kakkad, was an Indian poet of the Malayalam language. Known for works such as Saphalmee Yathra, Pathalathinde Muzhakkam and Changatham, he was a Sanskrit scholar and was known to have been proficient in painting and music. He was a recipient of several awards including Odakkuzhal Award, Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry and Vayalar Award.

Thomas Joseph was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. He received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2013 for his work, Marichavar Cinema KaanukayaaNu. He was also a recipient of SBT Literary Award, Delhi Short Story Award, K. A. Kodungallore Award, V. P. Sivakumar memorial Keli Award and the Children's literary institute Award. He died on 29 July 2021, at the age of 67.

Priya A. S. is an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. She writes short stories, children's literature, translations and memoirs. She has translated Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things into Malayalam under the title Kunju Karyangalude Odeythampuran of which Roy herself has said that although there have been translations in several languages, no other translation is as important to her as this, as it is the language of the novel's central characters. She is a three-time recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.

Baiju N Nair is an Indian television host, YouTuber, author, travel and automobile journalist and chief editor of Smart Drive automobile magazine. He won a Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2018. He is the host of the TV show Smart Drive in Asianet News.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kuttippuram bridge</span> Bridge in Kuttippuram, Malappuram

The Kuttippuram Bridge is a bridge that connects Kuttippuram with the Thavanur-Ponnani region in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. The Tirur and the Ponnani Taluks are separated by the river Bharathappuzha, which is also the second-longest river in Kerala. The bridge connects these two regions. It is a part of the National Highway 66 on the Kozhikode - Kochi route. It is one of the largest and oldest bridges built over the river Bharathappuzha, and plays a major role in connecting the Malabar region with the erstwhile Travancore-Cochin via road.
