Following are radio stations afffiliated with U.S. colleges and universities that only broadcast over the internet, a form of transmission also referred to as webcasting. None of the stations listed possess the FCC licenses required for terrestrial broadcasting (using radio waves). Most licensed college stations simulcast their programming using both means.
KPCC – branded LAist89.3 – is a non-commercial educational radio station licensed to Pasadena, California, primarily serving Greater Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. KPCC also reaches much of Santa Barbara, Ventura County, Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, and extends throughout Southern California with five low-power broadcast relay stations and three full-power repeaters. Owned by Pasadena City College and operated by the American Public Media Group via Southern California Public Radio, KPCC broadcasts a mix of public radio and news, and is an owned-and-operated station for American Public Media; in addition to serving as an affiliate for NPR and Public Radio Exchange; and is the radio home for Sandra Tsing Loh and Larry Mantle. Besides a standard analog transmission, KPCC broadcasts over two HD Radio channels, and is available online. The studios are located in Pasadena, while the station transmitter is on Mount Wilson. It is one of two full NPR members in the Los Angeles area; Santa Monica-based KCRW is the other.
WFMU is a non-commercial, listener-supported, independent community radio station licensed to East Orange, New Jersey, with studios in Jersey City. It is owned by Auricle Communications, broadcasting a free-form radio format. The station holds periodic on-air fundraisers and seeks donation on its website.
WUML is a non-commercial college radio station licensed to Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. The station is owned by the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The transmitter is atop Fox Hall on Pawtucket Street in Lowell.
WXPN is a non-commercial, public radio station licensed to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that broadcasts an adult album alternative (AAA) radio format, along with many other format shows. WXPN produces World Cafe, a music program distributed by NPR to many non-commercial stations in the United States. The station's call sign, which is often abbreviated to XPN, stands for "Experimental Pennsylvania Network". The broadcast tower used by WXPN is located at, in the antenna farm complex in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia.
WPRB is an FM radio station licensed to Princeton, New Jersey, and owned by Princeton Broadcasting Service, Inc. It broadcasts a freeform radio format, including shoegaze, slowcore, noise music, harsh noise wall, plunderphonics, illbient, jazz, electronic, folk, reggae, ska, metal, world, soul, rap, blues, and rock. While the station is non-profit, it is licensed as a commercial radio station. It is funded primarily by listener contributions, raised especially during WPRB's annual spring 10-day Membership Drive. It also derives funding through community underwriting contracts with local businesses. Almost all on-air staff and management are Princeton University alumni and students. WPRB's slogan is "New Jersey's Only Radio Station".
WGLS-FM, known as Rowan Radio, is a college radio station licensed to Rowan University. The studios are located in the College of Communication on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. WGLS-FM is Gloucester County's only FM radio station.
KKAY and KBRS are two commercial radio stations in Louisiana. KKAY 1590 is licensed to White Castle, Louisiana, and is owned by Liberty in Christ Jesus Ministry. KBRS 106.9 is licensed to Belle Rose, Louisiana, and is owned by Alex Media, Inc. Both stations simulcast their programming, directed at the region of Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
KLSU is the student-run college radio station owned by Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It has a free-form radio format, playing adult album alternative music with other genres and specialty programming. It is part of the university's Student Media Program with students serving as DJs and management staff. The studios and offices are in the basement of Hodges Hall. It is licensed under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a non-commercial educational (NCE) radio station.
WCEB was a radio station broadcasting a variety format. Licensed to Corning, New York, United States, the station was last owned by Corning Community College. Because of the location of its tower, the station was heard through much of the Corning, New York, area despite its low power.
WXYG is a radio station licensed to serve the community of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, United States. The station is part of the Tri-County Broadcasting group and the broadcast license is held by the Herbert M. Hoppe Revocable Trust. WXYG broadcasts an album-oriented rock (AOR) format. In addition to a standard analog transmission, WXYG simulcasts over the second HD Radio digital subchannel of sister station WHMH-FM, and streams online via the TuneIn app.
WLNX is a Christian radio station licensed to Lincoln, Illinois, United States.
WZLY is a non-commercial radio station broadcasting a college radio format. Licensed to Wellesley, Massachusetts, United States, the station is staffed by students of and is owned by Wellesley College. The student organization that hosts radio shows and maintains the broadcast is also known as WZLY.
KCCV are radio stations broadcasting a Christian talk and teaching radio format to the Kansas City metropolitan area. Both stations are licensed to communities in Kansas, the AM station to Overland Park and the FM to Olathe. They are owned by the Bott Broadcasting Company. KCCV-AM-FM are the flagship stations for the Bott Radio Network.
The Light, formerly WQLU, is a non-commercial internet radio station in Lynchburg, Virginia. It broadcasts a Contemporary Christian radio format and is owned and operated by Liberty University. The station aired Liberty University Flames athletics.
KGOR is a commercial radio station in Omaha, Nebraska, broadcasting a classic hits radio format. It is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., and licensed as iHM Licenses, LLC. The radio studios and offices are at North 50th Street and Underwood Avenue in Midtown Omaha.
KCWC-FM is a radio station broadcasting a contemporary hit radio format. Licensed to Riverton, Wyoming, United States, the station is owned by Central Wyoming College.
WPJK is an AM radio station licensed to Orangeburg, South Carolina. It airs a sports radio format and is owned by South Carolina State University, a historically black institution. While the university is a non-profit organization, WPJK is a commercial radio station. It largely airs programming from ESPN Radio, with some South Carolina-based sports shows.
KLRC is a non-commercial FM radio station licensed to Tahlequah, Oklahoma. It serves sections of Northwest Arkansas, Eastern Oklahoma and Southwest Missouri. KLRC broadcasts a Christian adult contemporary radio format and is owned by John Brown University. It is simulcast on KLAB at 101.1 MHz in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, as well as FM translators 99.1 K256BG in Bentonville, 101.1 K266BS in Van Buren and 103.5 K278BG in Springdale. KLRC and KLAB use periodic on-air fundraisers to seek support from listeners for the running of the stations.
KKXA is a commercial radio station licensed to Snohomish, Washington and serving the Seattle metropolitan area. The station's broadcast license is held by CAAM Partnership, LLC., an entity controlled by the Skotdal family, which also publishes the Everett Post newspaper. The KKXA studios are shared with sister station AM 1380 KRKO at the Key Tower building in downtown Everett, Washington. The transmitter is off Short School Road in Snohomish. KKXA airs a classic country radio format.
WWVT and WWVT-FM are non-commercial public radio stations. WWVT is licensed to Christiansburg, Virginia, and WWVT-FM is licensed to Ferrum, Virginia. They broadcast a classical music format and are owned and operated by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. WWVT-FM is the flagship station of WVTF Music, a companion service to WVTF, Southwestern Virginia's NPR member news and information station. WWVT-AM-FM have their studios and offices at WVTF's facility in Roanoke.
