According to the Ecuadorian Superintendency of Banks, as of 2012, the ten most profitable banks in Ecuador were (ordered by profit): Banco Pichincha, Banco del Pacífico, Banco de Guayaquil, Produbanco, Banco Internacional and Banco Bolivariano, Banco del Austro, Banco Solidario, Citibank Ecuador and Unibanco (now merged with Banco Solidario). A poll conducted by Advance Consultora in 2012 found that clients considered the best banks in the country were (ordered by preference): Banco Internacional, Produbanco, Banco del Pacífico, Banco Pichincha, Banco de Machala and Banco de Guayaquil. [3]
Teleamazonas is an Ecuadorian television network that was launched on 22 February 1974. It is one of the major television networks in the country. It was founded by Antonio Granda Centeno and has two feeds: one produced in Quito and broadcast in the rest of the country, and the other one produced in and available in Guayaquil and Guayas.
¡Alfaro Vive, Carajo! (AVC), another name for the Fuerzas Armadas Populares Eloy Alfaro, was a clandestine left-wing group in Ecuador, founded in 1982 and named after popular government leader and general Eloy Alfaro. The group was labeled as a terrorist organization by the Ecuadorian state during the period of the former president León Febres Cordero. It existed between 1983 and 1991, when it carried out various armed actions and criminal acts in Ecuador, with Colombian (M-19) and Nicaraguan influence. The group was initially formed sometime in the 1970s, but was not active militarily for the first few years of the 80's.

The 2009 Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol de la Serie A was the 51st season of the Serie A, Ecuador's premier football league. The season began on January 31 and ended on December 7. Deportivo Quito successfully defended their title for their fourth overall.
Banking in Ecuador has a long history. At the time of the dissolution of Gran Colombia and its formation as a republic, Ecuador's economy was generally not monetized; gold and silver coins were circulated, and were brought into common use by successive currency laws. Little by little, with the growth of the nation, Ecuadorian banking also grew and was particularly centered on the city of Guayaquil. After the Liberal Revolution came a period called the Banking Plutocracy that was dominated by private banking, especially by the Commercial and Agricultural Bank of Guayaquil. This period ended with the July Revolution of 1925.
Juan Manuel Rodríguez López is a Spanish-born, naturalized Ecuadorian author and professor. He holds a licenciate/BA degree in philosophy and a doctorate in literature from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE). He was a professor at Universidad Central del Ecuador and Universidad Católica, as well as a founding professor of Universidad San Francisco de Quito, where he was Dean of the College of Communication and Contemporary Arts.

Marcel Jacobo Laniado de Wind was an Ecuadorian agricultural engineer and banker who held a number of important public and private positions in Ecuador. He was a humanist, and a public figure in Ecuador for his efforts to improve the country.
Canal Uno was an Ecuadorian television network owned by the Group Rivas operated RELAD S.A., in the city of Guayaquil and Canal Uno S.A., in the city of Quito. Since its start in broadcasting on November 6, 1992, as CRE Televisión, April 18, 1994, as SíTV and May 6, 2002, the channel has become one of the largest chains of Ecuador.

The Festival Internacional de Cine de Guayaquil is an annual international film festival in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was founded in 2015. In 2017, 119 films were shown and, according to the organizers, the festival drew an attendance of more than 10,000 in Guayaquil, Machala, and Portoviejo.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Ecuador was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was reported to have spread to Ecuador on 29 February 2020, when a woman in her 70s tested positive for the virus. Ecuador was described in April as emerging as a possible "epicentre" of the pandemic in Latin America, with the city of Guayaquil overwhelmed to the point where bodies were being left in the street.
Women's suffrage in Ecuador was introduced into the Constitution in 1929. Ecuador was the first country in South America to introduce women's suffrage.

Miss Grand Ecuador is an Ecuadorian female national beauty pageant launched in 2021 by the Concurso Nacional de Belleza Ecuador organization, directed by Tahiz Panus and Miguel Panus, with the aim of selecting a country representative to participate in its parent pageant, Miss Grand International. Previously, the competition franchise belonged to Maria del Carmen Aguayo, who usually chose the runners-up or national finalists from her national pageant, Miss Ecuador, to partake in such an international competition.
