National Geographic is an American magazine that is noted for its cover stories and accompanying photography. [1] [2] [3] Throughout the 1990s National Geographic's cover stories showcased global historical events such as the Exxon Valdez oil spill. [4] Cover stories included articles written by notable writers such as Joel Swerdlow, [5] Paul Theroux [6] and Paul F. Salopek. [7] Cover photos were published by notable photographers such as David Doubilet, [8] James Nachtwey [9] and Frans Lanting. [10]
The 1990s saw articles written and photographed at locations around the globe featuring marine life like the February 1994 issue titled "Sea Turtles: In a Race for Survival", written by Anne and Jack Rudloe with a photo on the cover of a Sea turtle, photographed by Bill Curtsinger. [11] Articles featured on the cover of the magazine also included human-interest stories such as "1491: America Before Columbus", photographed by Jack Unruh featuring the Iroquois Native Americans in the October 1991 issue. [12] Many geographical locations were featured including Petra, an archaeological city in Jordan, in the December 1998 article "Petra: Ancient City of Stone", written by Don Belt with photographs by Annie Griffiths. In the August 1991 issue, Thomas Y. Canby wrote the cover story titled "The Persian Gulf: After the Storm", writing about the Kuwaiti oil fires after the Persian Gulf War. The photo on the cover of the magazine featured a picture of oil fields on fire, photographed by Steve McCurry. [14]

Kitchen Sink Press was a pioneering publisher of underground comics, and was also responsible for numerous republications of classic comic strips in hardcover and softcover volumes. He is known for his 10-year run as editor of Marvel Fanfare; his long involvement as writer, penciler, and inker on Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man; his four-year tenure as West Coast Avengers penciller; and his long stint as the inker of X-Factor. He often inks Jim Starlin's work. Milgrom is the co-creator of DC superhero Firestorm.

Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game is a role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe, written and published by West End Games (WEG) between 1987 and 1999. The game system was slightly modified and rereleased in 2004 as D6 Space, which used a generic space opera setting. An unrelated Star Wars RPG was published by Wizards of the Coast from 2000 to 2010. Since 2012 the official Star Wars role-playing game is another unrelated game, published by Fantasy Flight Games.

Diana Schutz is a Canadian-born comic book editor, serving as editor in chief of Comico during its peak years, followed by a 25-year tenure at Dark Horse Comics. Some of the best-known works she has edited are Frank Miller's Sin City and 300, Matt Wagner's Grendel, Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, and Paul Chadwick's Concrete. She was known to her letter-column readers as "Auntie Dydie". She was an adjunct instructor of comics history and criticism at Portland Community College.
