Kate Anthony (born 11 April 1964) is an English actress best known for her role as Pam Hobsworth on the ITV soap Coronation Street . [1]

Career

She has appeared in Doctors playing Ellen Murray, Sparkhouse playing Jenny Bullock, Casualty playing Angela Phillips and As Time Goes By . More recently she has appeared in Totally Frank , Heartbeat and EastEnders playing Annie Grey. She played the role of Pam Hobsworth in the ITV soap Coronation Street from July 2008 to December 2010. She also had a small role in My Parents Are Aliens as the Inspector Mrs. Morris.

She has had numerous theatrical roles including The Cherry Orchard with Judi Dench and prior to taking the role in Coronation Street, she toured Scotland in The Odd Couple with her closest friend Gerard Kelly.

Anthony starred in Northern Broadsides' production of Rutherford and Son with Barrie Rutter, West Yorkshire Playhouse's Alan Bennett production of Untold Stories and the main role in Sheffield Theatres' production of Queen Coal.

In 2015 Anthony appeared as Ethel Davies in the BBC TV series Father Brown episode 3.14 "The Deadly Seal".

In 2016, she portrayed a Braavosi woman in the HBO series Game of Thrones in Season 6. [2]

She starred in the UK and Irish touring production of Anything Goes as Evangeline Harcourt and then once again toured in the Northern Broadsides hit When We Are Married , as Clara Soppitt, which was directed by and starred Barrie Rutter. [3]

Anthony has also recently been in the comedy series Boomers and is regularly on BBC Radio 4 in Tom Wrigglesworth's Hang Ups, playing Tom's mother.

In 2018 she appeared at the Royal Exchange, Manchester in Queens of The Coal Age, written by Maxine Peake.

In November 2021 she appeared as Hazel in Emmerdale as Andrea Tate's mother, to take legal guardianship of Jamie and Andrea's daughter Millie.

Personal life

Anthony studied drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. [3]

Anthony is married to former actor and racing driver Gary Barak, who is now better known as an automotive & motorsport PR man. They have two children. [4]

Bill Webster is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street, played by Peter Armitage. The character first appeared onscreen during the episode airing on 6 February 1984 and remained in the show until 1985 when Armitage decided to leave. The character was reintroduced in 1995 but he was again written out two years later. Armitage returned once again in 2006 and appeared frequently until late-April 2010 when the character suddenly appeared only a recurring basis. It was reported in 2011 that Bill was going to be axed completely, however, he continued to make appearances on a recurring basis. Pam Hobsworth is a fictional character from the British soap opera Coronation Street, played by Kate Anthony. She initially appeared between 2008 and 2010, before making guest stints in 2011 and 2012. The character has been referred to as Auntie Pam in the media and in the soap itself. Anthony was happy to be cast on the soap and she attributed it to helping her career by raising her profile; however, she found it difficult as she had to leave her family in London. Molly Dobbs and she later became a love interest for Bill Webster. Binns praised the character and believed that Pam and Molly had a really honest relationship. Pam was characterised as being a wheeler-dealer, with one of her first storyline seeing her almost die in an explosion after she tries to create biofuel. Pam then became the first regular character on the soap to find out that married Molly is having an affair with Bill's son, Kevin Webster, and she initially is angry with Molly but later supports her. Pam later blames Kevin for Molly's death and becomes engaged to Bill. Anthony became recognised for the role and the character received mixed reception from critics.
