The Kaiviti Silktails are a semi-professional rugby league football club from Fiji competing in the NSWRL's Jersey Flegg Cup.

History

The NSWRL had first endorsed a bid team from Fiji led by Petero Civoniceva early in 2014 to have a team compete in the 2016 NSW Cup competition. [2] The bid received endorsement from the Fiji National Rugby League in 2018. [3] In June 2019, it was announced that the Kaiviti Silktails would enter the Ron Massey Cup in 2020, with promotion to the New South Wales Cup in 2021. Brandon Costin, coach of the Fijian national team, was announced as head coach. [4] [5]

The Silktails won their opening match of the 2020 season 40–16 against the Windsor Wolves in Lautoka. [6] The season was subsequently cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wes Naiqama was named head coach in June 2020. [7]

The Silktails remained in the Ron Massey Cup in 2021, remaining in Australia for the duration of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and playing their home matches at Mascot Oval. [8] [9] During their round 1 bye, the team played a trial match against the Mascot Jets, [10] winning 46–16. [11] Their round 2 match against the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles was postponed due to inclement weather. [12]

In 2022, the Silktails became a predominantly under-23 side. [13] In December 2023, it was announced that Silktails would become an under-21 side and join the Jersey Flegg Cup. [14]

The Silktails were scheduled to play all 10 of their home matches in 2020 at Churchill Park, Lautoka. [15] In 2021, the team played all of their home matches at Mascot Oval, Sydney.

Petero Civoniceva, is a Fijian-Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. A Queensland State of Origin and Australian international representative prop forward, in 2009 he broke the record for most international matches for Australia of any forward in history. Civoniceva played his club football for the Brisbane Broncos, with whom he won the 1998, 2000 and 2006 NRL Premierships, as well as for the Penrith Panthers, whom he captained. Late in his career whilst playing for the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Queensland Cup, Civoniceva captained the Fiji national team in their 2013 Rugby League World Cup campaign. The Petero Civoniceva Medal is awarded to the Australian Fijian rugby league footballer of the year, while the Civoniceva Medal is awarded to the Queensland Cup player voted as the best and fairest.

The Windsor Wolves are a rugby league team based in the town of Windsor, New South Wales. The club fields both junior and senior teams in the Penrith District Rugby League competitions. The club has fielded teams in semi-professional, New South Wales Rugby League competitions. In March 2020 the club re-entered the third-tier Ron Massey Cup and fourth-tier Sydney Shield competitions. These competitions were cancelled after one round of matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia. When the Sydney Shield was reorganised for a restart in July 2020, Windsor did not participate.

He primarily played as a halfback, but can also fill in at hooker.

The Deans Trophy is the most prestigious and oldest award in the Fiji Secondary Schools sporting competitions. The annual competition was introduced in 1939 and is the oldest tournament in the Fiji rugby union. The trophy was first won by Queen Victoria School and it has been won the most by Queen Victoria School a record 24 times, and the current champion is Queen Victoria School (QVS). For sponsorship reasons it is currently known as Coke Super Deans Trophy.

Ilisavani Jegesa is a Fijian rugby league international footballer who plays as a centre for Nabua Broncos and Kaiviti Silktails. He stays with his family in Nabua. He dropped out from school when he was in class six. "Joining the Fiji Bati to the world cup is really an honour," he said. He also represents Nabua in 7's and XV.

The NSWRL Presidents Cup is a semi-professional, open-aged rugby league football competition played in New South Wales. The competition is administered by the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL). The competition includes teams from domestic rugby league clubs, Ron Massey Cup, Sydney Shield and Canterbury Cup clubs.

The New South Wales Rugby League administered several competitions during the 2021 rugby league season in Australia. The season was impacted by the Delta variant of the COVID-19 pandemic. Junior competitions, Country representative tournaments, and City versus Country representative matches were concluded prior to the impact of lockdown in June 2021. The lockdowns, however, led to the postponement and subsequent cancellation of senior competitions.

The 2022 New South Wales Rugby League Presidents Cup will be a competition to determine the best semi-professional Rugby League team in New South Wales. It will be the third season of the competition. The 2022 season will add the Western Conference into the competition, which brings the conferences up to 4. The winners of each conference will play a 2-week knockout series to determine the Presidents Cup winners.

The New South Wales Rugby League administered several competitions during the 2022 rugby league season in Australia.

The 2017 New South Wales Cup season was the tenth season of the New South Wales Cup administered by the New South Wales Rugby League, and the second known as the Intrust Super Premiership NSW due sponsorship reasons. The competition acts as a second-tier league to the ten New South Wales-based National Rugby League clubs, as well the Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors.
