Jo Willems is a Belgian cinematographer. Growing up in Westerlo outside Antwerp, he studied film at the LUCA School of Arts, [1] before he relocated to the United Kingdom at the age of 21. [2] He made his feature film cinematography debut with Hard Candy (2005) directed by David Slade, with whom Willems would also collaborate with again on 30 Days of Night (2007). [3] Willems would reunite with music video director Francis Lawrence on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), serving as cinematographer on following installments of the franchise for Lawrence as well as the spy thriller Red Sparrow (2018), [4] the fantasy adventure Slumberland (2022), [5] and three episodes of the Apple TV+ series See (2019–2022). [6]
For his work on the horror film His House (2020), Willems received a nomination for the British Independent Film Award for Best Cinematography. [7]

The cinematographer or director of photography is the person responsible for the recording of a film, television production, music video or other live-action piece. The cinematographer is the chief of the camera and light crews working on such projects. They would normally be responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image and for selecting the camera, film stock, lenses, filters, etc. The study and practice of this field are referred to as cinematography.
The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), founded in Hollywood in 1919, is a cultural, educational, and professional organization that is neither a labor union nor a guild. The society was organized to advance the science and art of cinematography and gather a wide range of cinematographers to discuss techniques and ideas and to advocate for motion pictures as a type of art form. John Ira BaileyASC was an American cinematographer and film director known for his collaborations with directors Paul Schrader, Lawrence Kasdan, Michael Apted, and Ken Kwapis. In August 2017, Bailey was elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was succeeded by casting director David Rubin in August 2019.
