Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) was an awards ceremony held between 2005 and 2007, conceptualized to acknowledge excellence in the Indian Film industry and honour artists in 28 categories across various genres, from acting to film making. It is held in a different country each year. 2005 in Dubai, [1] [2] Kuala Lumpur in 2006, [3] [4] and will be held in Chicago in 2013.
The jury members for the first awards were Aziz Mirza, Om Puri, Firoz Nadiadwala, Kabir Bedi, Bharti Pradhan, Umesh Mehra and Priti Hiranandani. The ceremony was organised at Dubai's Al-Wasi Stadium from 25 to 27 January 2005. A football match was also help between the Bollywood actors' team and UAE football team. [5]
The ceremony produced by Global Events, Dubai and is backed by Suniel Shetty, Chairman of Popcorn Entertainment. The jury members are: Jackie Shroff, Rati Agnihotri, Sajid Nadiadwala, Sandeep Chowta, Shyam Benegal, and Smita Thackeray. [6]

The GIFA trophy made out of 24 ct gold is based on the 5 elements of the universe. The trophy presented to each winner is produced by Citigold Corporation, Australia and certified by a leading global certification house for its purity.

The ceremony was held on 6 January 2007 at Bandra Kurla Complex Ground, Mumbai, hosted by Raju Srivastav and Navin Prabhakar. And it was telecasted on 14 January 2007, StarPlus.
