The 1968 Central Michigan Chippewas football team represented Central Michigan University in the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) during the 1968 NCAA College Division football season. In their second season under head coach Roy Kramer, the Chippewas compiled a 7–2 record, tied for the IIAC championship and outscored their opponents, 256 to 132. The team's statistical leaders included quarterback Bob Miles with 918 passing yards, tailback Craig Tefft with 1,126 rushing yards, and Dave Lemere with 325 receiving yards. Tefft received the team's most valuable player award. Seven Central Michigan players received first-team honors on the All-IIAC team.
The 1961 Utah State Aggies football team was an American football team that represented Utah State University as a member of the Skyline Conference during the 1961 college football season. In their third year head coach John Ralston, the Aggies compiled a 9–1–1 record, tied with Wyoming for the Skyline championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 387 to 78. They were ranked No. 10 in the final AP and UPI polls. The Aggies were undefeated in the regular season, having scored an average of 37.8 points per game while holding opponents to 5.0 points per game. They then lost to Baylor, 24–9, in the 1961 Gotham Bowl in New York City. Utah State did not play in another bowl game until 1993.

From 1988 to 2000, Buffington was a coach for several teams in the Arena Football League (AFL), including serving as head coach for the Albany Firebirds (1990–1993), Connecticut Coyotes (1995), Charlotte Rage (1996), and Florida Bobcats. He also coached the New Haven Ninjas (2002) and Albany Conquest (2004) in af2, the New England Surge (2007) in the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), and the Boston Blaze (2017) in the Can-Am Indoor Football League.
