The granddaughter of the Doctor and original companion of their first incarnation, she was played by actress Carole Ann Ford from 1963 to 1964, in the show's first season and the first two stories of the second season. Ford reprised the role for the feature-length 20th anniversary episode "The Five Doctors" (1983) and the 30th anniversary charity special Dimensions in Time (1993).
Sara Kingdom is a fictional character played by Jean Marsh in the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. A security officer for Mavic Chen from the 40th century, she later joined the First Doctor and Steven to work against Chen's interests. She is sometimes classed as a companion of the First Doctor but the BBC's official Doctor Who website does not include her in their list of companions. This was the final serial to be broadcast in 45-minute episodes; this format would return 20 years later when the series resumed in 2005. Revelation of the Daleks is the only time the Sixth Doctor encountered the Daleks in a television story.

Eric Loren is an American film and television actor based in London. He played Mr Diagoras and the Dalek Sec Hybrid in the long-running British TV series Doctor Who. He also played Kurtis Trent in Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness and a War Department Lieutenant in Saving Private Ryan. In 2008 he guest starred in the Doctor Who audio adventure Assassin in the Limelight. Most recently, Loren has appeared in 2011 Video Game, Battlefield 3, as Sergeant Steve Campo. In 2001 he had a role in season 4 of The Worst Witch as teacher, Andy Starfinder.

This series ties in elements from the Dalek Empire arc in the Doctor Who: The Monthly Range, a storyline containing the releases The Genocide Machine, The Apocalypse Element, The Mutant Phase and The Time of the Daleks.
