Akwa Ibom Christmas Village

Akwa Ibom State Christmas Village is a park that is always created during the festive period at Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. [1] [2]

Background

It is usually set up in December and terminates around early January. The park is loaded with activities ranging from presentations from dance groups, service of different delicacies, and networking by fun-seeking lovers. [3]

The Christmas Village was inaugurated by Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2020, and since then, it has been a place of activities for the indigenes and visitors during the festive period. [4]

Recently, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno included Happy Hour Freebies to the Christmas celebration at the park, and changed the name from Christmas Village to Christmas Park. [5] [6]

The Governor of the State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno hosted the 2023 Christmas Carol festival in the Christmas Park. [7]

Oron Museum is a museum in Oron, Nigeria. The museum was established in 1958 to accommodate eight hundred known ancestral figures of the Oron people which are believed to be among the oldest and finest surviving wood carvings in Africa. During the civil war, many of the wood carvings were looted and the museum was damaged. In 1975, the museum was reinaugurated and today houses the remains of the wooden sculptures and other ethnographic materials from across Nigeria. The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium is a 30,000 capacity national sports stadium located in Uyo, the state capital of Akwa Ibom. The stadium serves as a home to the Nigerian Super Eagles as well as a center for various social, cultural, Political and religious events. The contract for the construction of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium complex and Games Village was awarded in 2012 to Julius Berger and was completed in 2014. The 30,000 seater ultra modern multipurpose sports complex was modeled after Allianz Arena.

The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is a large gathering of carol singers in Nigeria. A concert featuring 25,272 carol singers at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, with Guinness World Records representatives in attendance, was officially certified as the largest such gathering in the world by Guinness World Records on December 13, 2014, against a former record of 15,674 carol singers which was achieved the previous year by a group called CENTI in Bogotá, Colombia.

The 2023 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, concurrent with elections to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former commissioner Umo Eno held the office for the PDP by a 34% margin over first runner-up and YPP nominee — Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.
