The 2014 Pittsburgh Panthers football team represented the University of Pittsburgh in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Panthers were led by head coach Paul Chryst and played their home games at Heinz Field. They were a member of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). This was Pitt's second season as a member of the ACC. They finished the season 6–7, 4–4 in ACC play to finish in a tie for third place in the Coastal Division. They were invited to the Armed Forces Bowl where they lost to Houston.

On December 18, head coach Paul Chryst resigned to become the head coach at Wisconsin. [1] He finished with a three-year record of 19–19. Offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph was the Panthers interim head coach in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Paul Joseph Chryst is an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 2012 to 2014 and the University of Wisconsin—Madison from 2015 to 2022. Chryst had previously been the offensive coordinator at Wisconsin from 2005 through 2011. He also served in the same capacity at Oregon State University and was an assistant coach for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). Chryst played college football at Wisconsin, where he lettered as a quarterback and tight end from 1986 to 1988.

Steve Pederson was athletic director (AD) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Pittsburgh. He began his career as a college football recruiting coordinator at Ohio State, Tennessee, and Nebraska, where he assembled No. 1 ranked recruiting classes. Before his time at Virginia Tech, he was the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison as well as the interim head coach and offensive coordinator of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Panthers were led through the regular season by first-year head coach Todd Graham and played eight home games at Heinz Field. The team played its home games at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Panthers were led by thirteenth-year head coach Jamie Dixon. They were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They finished the season 21–12, 9–9 in ACC play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They defeated Syracuse in the second round of the ACC tournament to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to North Carolina. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where, as a #10 seed, they lost in the first round to Wisconsin.
