Today we were thrilled to open our new on course betting shop at Southwell racecourse in Nottinghamshire, following our latest partnership with Arena Racing Company. 🐎 Stuart Wright, Head of Stadia at William Hill, said: "Following flood damage late last year, extensive work has been completed to once again open the gates at Southwell to members of the public. We have worked closely with Mark and his team to create a betting shop that fits in well to the newly refurbished area and we are looking forward to welcoming William Hill customers back to the track.” Mark Clayton, Southwell’s Executive Director, said: “It’s been a fantastic effort from all the team here at Southwell to get the racecourse back to full working order after the extensive flood damage the racecourse endured in October 2023." "Now with the refurbishment complete we are thrilled to be welcoming full crowds back to the track. I would like to the thank all the staff for their hard work and support during this tricky time. I would also like to thank Southwell race goers for their patience and we look forward to providing you with the best customer experience possible in the coming weeks."

This weekend was Leeds Pride and colleagues from our UK offices and shops came together to celebrate!   As a big employer in Leeds, we were an ‘infrastructure sponsor’ of the event and had our own William Hill walking float in the parade. Our sponsorship goes to supporting LGBTQ+ charities in the area and helped make sure that Leeds Pride remained a free event for the public to attend.   Jamie Thom, Cluster Operations Manager in Retail and Chair of our Proud to Be committee, was at the event on Sunday and told us:   “It was an incredible day. The streets of Leeds were packed to the brim and the event felt so much bigger than when we walked in the parade for the first time last year. The atmosphere was full of joy, music, and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community.   “We were joined by colleagues from both retail and the office, some part of the LGBTQ+ communities and some allies. The energy that everyone brought to the day made it unforgettable – they are an amazing group of people and it was great to see everyone coming together to support inclusivity.   “It was also great to be sponsors for a second year running. Members of the public kept coming up to our colleagues to say ‘thank you’ for supporting the community, which was really humbling.   “A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in Leeds on Sunday and everyone who helped to make it happen – we couldn’t have done it without your support and engagement.” 🏳️🌈

We are delighted to announce we have raised over £35,000 for the Greyhound Trust! 🙌 Over the past year our retail colleagues have shown their support to the trust by raising funds in our shops through charity collection pots, hosting coffee mornings and volunteering at Greyhound Trust centres across the UK. As part of the relationship, the Greyhound Trust have shared insight into how they provide for the dogs, showcasing their dedication to finding forever homes for each greyhound. Derek Hope, Senior Greyhound Odds-Compiler said: "This is a fantastic effort and I'm delighted that such a significant sum has been raised for such an important sector. I'm sure this is something all at William Hill will be keen to continue with in the year ahead."

This week we saw the launch of our new evoke ethnicity and culture community, Race Together. To celebrate this new community, colleagues were invited to attend a virtual event with guest speaker Clarke Carlisle. The founding committee members discussed their plans for the future and were joined by the former footballer to discuss sport and racial equality. Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing what our Race Together community group do next!

Last month colleagues from our London office represented William Hill in the 5-a-side Corporate 5s Cup! Playing against competitors including Manchester United’s head office and Premier League productions, the team made it through eight matches and into the quarter finals. Ollie Harrison, Programmatic Specialist, told us: “The competition on the day was really strong, with many teams looking like they had played together before, and everyone was keen to show off their skills to their colleagues. The tournament began with us playing eight fast-paced group game matches, and we challenged our competitors in every match. We were lucky to progress to the plate competition but unfortunately, that was where our journey ended as we lost 3-1 to Manchester United Head Office staff. “Overall, it was a great day out and nice to meet some new people at evoke, and we felt very lucky to be playing football on a work day!” Congratulations to Ollie Harrison, Aaron Kular, Sean De Souza, Tom Hine, Josh Allenby, Robert Wood, and Rubelson De Barros Guimaraes Lopes Tavares, who represented William Hill in the tournament. ⚽
