Research interests include the origin and evolution of cosmic magnetism, supernova remnants, the interstellar medium, massive star formation, galaxy mergers and astrophysical masers.
Member of the advisory board for the Australian Space Agency and Questacon. Former Group Leader, Project Scientist for the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), and the Square Kilometre Array at CSIRO. CSIRO Chairman's Medal recipient.
Author of 5 popular science books, including the award-winning children's book 'Under the Stars: Astrophysics for Bedtime". Presenter on ABC Television’s Stargazing Live. Winner of Eureka Prize for promoting the understanding of Australian science research.
