I think it There are several faults regarding his guitars. First he did not start using the Strat Untill 1970 at the end of 1969 he was still playing Gibson Les Paul. I think the correct date should be in 1970 somewhere. Even in 1971 he is using a Gibson Byrdland at the famous Bangladesh concert while George Harrison uses a Fender Stratocaster. Second There was not many English players using the Strat ? Well How about the most famous English guitarist of that time and a Friend of Eric George Harrison who got his Stratocaster in december 1964 and used it as his main guitar in Beatles from 1965 to 1970 and after that used it as his main guitar on all his solo records and the 2 Beatles reunion songs in 1995. The Fender Stratocaster was George Harrisons favourite guitar from 1958 untill he died. He was quoted saying ” if I had had it my way the Strat would have been my first guitar”. But they were uncommon in England at that time and very expensive. So he got a guitar that looked like the Stratocaster a Futurama. In 1960 he was to buy a second hand Stratocaster but the guitarist in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes woke up earlier and bought the guitar. That scarred George for life. George was said to have had 50 to 100 Stratocasters in his Castle Friar Park. So as the Stratocaster was George Harrisons favourite guitar from 1958 untill he died I think that Clapton might have been influenced by George as well. There is a video from 11 th or 12 th of December 1969 with Delany and Bonnie. George play Stratocaster and Eric Clapton a Gibson les Paul ( Delany Bramlet is playing a Telecaster That was gifted to him the 2 nd of December 1969). So the date for change of guitars is wrong regarding the Stratocaster.

Another thing that is very appearant is that Eric Clapton played a lot of Telecasters during the secenties, eightiees and after the millenium. Do a Google search. Every tour in the seventies feature a Telecaster. He used it in the eighties again not so much in the ninetiees but then again after 2000. There are hundreds of photos of Eric Clapton and a Telecaster from this period.

Unlike his friend George Harrison who hated the Telecaster Clapton seemed to have liked it. Fender have made various Fender Telecaster Eric Clapton editions.

George Harrison had never played a Telecaster untill he got one special Made for him in January 1969. It was ordered by Paul McCartney. This was according to George his least favourite Beatle guitar. He Said it sounded to bright and was too heavy. He gave the guitar away as a gift to Delany Bramlett 2 nd of December 1969. It was not used much by the Beatles. And since 1969 I have never seen George Harrison with a Telecaster.

But Eric sure used them. Do a Google search for pictures.

Also he did a tour in the nineties using only his ES-335 Gibson guitar.
