Chang Chinmo River (change · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete)
Arapath River (change · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete)

Razorflame has nominated this page for deletion for the reason:

These articles are not notable. They do not get many results in Google and they do not have an English Wikipedia page.

Please discuss this deletion below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options that are not just "keep" or "delete", such as merging.

Discussion

  • Delete I just checked my Academic Search Elite database and found zero hits for all three rivers. Funny how we're the top hit for them... Cassandra 20:11, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as nominator. Razorflame 20:12, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per the IP that created them. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:31, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are they real rivers? - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:06, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Non-existant river. Someone needs to have a good talk with that anon. He has been causing many problems. Chenzw  Talk  11:45, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep Brengi River and Arapath River but Delete Chang Chinmo River. Beefball Talk 14:46, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I hope people looked at Beefball's search results; the top hit was a fleet passing mention in an EnWP article in both cases. I don't think having an article on any of these rivers is vital (redirects to nearby municipalities could be considered), so I say Delete. —Giggy 08:31, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • If they're real, then merge to a list of rivers in Pakistan. Changed to keep. - A Link to the Past (talk) 22:14, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia notability policies (at least for EN) mentions that articles on rivers are generally notable and do merit their own individual articles. Only smaller bodies of water (like creeks or ponds) would be merged into larger lists.--TBC 22:40, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. These rivers are described as minor ones in Pakistan (if they are real), so it's not surprising that a Google search for the English name brings up little to no results.--TBC 22:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong keep all. Chang Chinmo seems to be a misspelling. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the correct spelling would be "Chiang chen mo" or more commonly "Chang Chen Mo" (named after the mountain range that surrounds it). I believe the same applies for the other two entries.--TBC 22:28, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all It's irrelevant that they don't have articles in enwiki, and you'd probably need to search in Urdu for a reasonable number of search engine hits. There may be multiple names for each river due to differences in transliteration. Hippopotamus (talk) 04:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Actually, it is very relevant that they don't have English Wikipedia results because that means that the majority of the English language users in the world do not think these bodies of water to be notable enough to be in their Wikipedia. Also, based upon what TBC said above, he said that Wikipedia shouldn't have bodies of water that are small, e.g. creeks or streams. If you read the first word of Brengi River, you see that it clearly says stream in the first sentence of the article, meaning that under TBC's rationale, that article doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Cheers, Razorflame 02:26, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - does this Wikipedia care about notability any more? A lot of the articles being created by this IP would be doubtful for Pakistani Wikipedia, so quite why we're happy to have a trivial Pakistani minor river deluge here is beyond me. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:10, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wikipedia is not paper; I think it would therefore be safe to keep all those rivers where we can establish that they exist and that they are reasonably notable. It might be worth asking people from Wikiprojects India and Pakistan on EnWP whether they can check; If they are notable they would certainly be one of the first things Urdu (and other local languages) Wikipedia would contain. As to naming: be aware that there are probably issues with transliteration (as well as spelling names as many words, or as one word together). We also need to check that what we are keeping is a reasonable stub, not just 2-3 sentences. If in doubt, i would say keep though. --Eptalon (talk) 17:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Outcome

[change source]

This request is due to close seven days after it was filed; that is on approx. Sunday, 10 August 2008 at 8:04 pm, although it may be closed quicker due to this.

Note: To the people who close this request, please check Category:Rivers in Pakistan thouroughly and delete any rivers in that category that have no or few hits in Google or don't have an English Wikipedia page. Thank you. Razorflame 20:13, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The outcome of this request for deletion was to  Delete

It is very strange, but the number of hits on Cuil for the rivers have dropped to zero. It may be a sabotage (unlikely), or just a day when there are many new entries indexed by the bots (which are invalid). Chang Chinmo River, or as TBC said, Chang Chen Mo river, appears to be an unofficial name. However, the river is near an existent mountain and flows into the correctly named Shyok River. Despite having an unofficial name, I am giving this river a chance.
In short: First and third are deleted, second one is renamed. Chenzw  Talk  13:25, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
