The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental organization founded on June 14, 2001 by the leaders of the People's Republic of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. With the exception of Uzbekistan, they had been known before as the Five of Shanghai.
