Andrzej Książek (born in 1953 in Ząbki)[1] – a poet, artist, philosopher and doctor habilitated in the humanities[2].
Education
In 1971, he graduated from the Automotive Vocational School at Miejskie Zakłady Komunikacyjne in Warsaw[1]. From 1971 to 1974, he was a student at the Automotive Technical School in Warsaw. From 1975 to 1978, he studied philosophy at the Academy of Catholic Theology and from 1978 to 1982 at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw[3]. At the same time, he attended seminars at the Faculty of Psychology and History of Art at the University of Warsaw. In 1987, he defended his doctoral dissertation, titled The Views of Władysław Tatarkiewicz on the Work of Art, at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw, [1][3]. In 2004, he was awarded a postdoctoral degree at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, on the basis of his book Art v. Art: From the Theory of the 20th Century Avant-Garde[1][3]. In 1987-1989 he studied sociology at the School of Postgraduate Studies in Sociology at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Warsaw[1].
Professional and Community Work
In 1974, he worked as a technologist at the Automotive Electromechanics Cooperative in Warsaw[1]. In 1975, he worked as a car mechanic and driver in the 2nd Department of Construction Transportation at “Transbud” in Warsaw[1]. Between 1982 and 1984, he was an assistant lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Silesia in Katowice[1]. From 1984 to 2018, he was a lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw[3]. At the same time, from 1990 to 1997, he was also a lecturer at the School of Special Education[1]. Between 1999 and 2000, he was a lecturer at the College of Humanities in Pułtusk[1]. Between 1997 and 1999, he was the co-owner of the POLTURIST travel agency. Between 1988 and 1990, he acted as chairman of the Faculty Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union at the University of Warsaw[1]. Between 1983 and 1988, he was the literary manager of the “Brama” gallery in Warsaw. Between 1984 and 1986, he was the editor of the Edukacja Filozoficzna journal [3].
He is a member of the Polish Writers’ Association[1] and the Polish Philosophical Society.
Poetic Works
He made his debut in 1976 in issue 9 of the Poezja monthly. He published his poems in such journals as Twórczość, Poezja, Więź, Miesięcznik Literacki, Okolice, Magazyn Kulturalny, Pismo Artystyczno-Literackie, Przegląd Filozoficzno-Literacki, Nowy Wyraz, Życie Literackie, Integracje, Kwartalnik Społeczno-Literacki Regiony, Kultura, Tygodnik Kulturalny, Tu i Teraz, Tygodnik Pracy Twórczej Radar, Literatura, Tak i Nie, Gazeta Kulturalna, Kwartalnik Literacki Podgląd[3].

Artistic Works
He took part in the Arsenal 88 All-Poland Exhibition of Young Visual Arts. He included his conceptual, linguistic and concrete works (visual poetry) in the catalogue of the Arsenal 88 All-Poland Exhibition of Young Visual Arts and in the catalogue of the Warsaw “Brama” gallery (1984). Between 1975 and 1984, he practised conceptual art, visual poetry, performance art and installation art. In the 1970s and 1980s, he collaborated with Warsaw’s “Repasasage” and “Brama” galleries, putting out performances, including Organic Limitations (1979), I Hope
This is Not the Last Supper (1984), installations: Deceptions, “Brama” gallery (1985) and Presumptions, “Brama” gallery (1985). Documentation of some of his works can be found in the “Brama” gallery catalogue (1984) and in the author’s work The Dilemmas of Art (2011). Between 1978 and 1986, he wrote manifestos in which he included his views on art, poetry, literature and philosophy, including, The Manifesto of Total Art (Tygodnik Pracy Twórczej Radar, 1985, issue 25), The Non-Poetry Manifesto, A Theoretical Artistic and Philosophical Text (in Poezje i inne utwory zebrane, Warsaw 2004), The Manifesto of Critical Art (2001), The Manifesto of Critical Poetry (Podgląd Quarterly of the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Writers’ Association issue 4, 2019)[3].
