Specification of Letters Patent.

To a. whom it may concern:

. Be it known that I, THEODORE M. ANDER- s0N,-a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellingham, in the county of Whatcom and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap Bars, of which the follow-ing' is a specification, reference being had thereinto the accompanying drawings? I 1 This invention relates to improvements in the manufacture of soap bars,- and its object is to provide means interiorly of a bar of soap for holding the soap materialtogether in order that it ma be entirely used Without any liability of its breaking.

A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the bar-holding member may be advantageously used for advertising purposes.

l/Vith these and other ends in view the invention consists in the novel construction and adaptation of devices, as will be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Fi ure l is a longitudinal vertical section of a bar of soap in which is embodied my in vention. In the drawings, the reference -letter A designates a bar of soap which may be of ordinary or suitable shape and which is cast, molded, or otherwise formed about a thin sheet of inexpensive material, such as paper or cardboard, and of somewhat less length and breadth than the inclosing said bar. Provided in this sheet B and in proximity of its margins is one or more rows or series of erforations C for the purpose of furnishing ines whereat the protruding edges of the sheet may be readily torn to remove the same when the corresponding edges of the soap bar are worn to such perforations. The perforations also furnish means for more intimately uniting the soap material to the said holding member by its being able to penetrate into the latter, thus preventing the separation of the ends of a broken bar and its use in a.convenient form to the end.

Provided in the sheet B and desirably at or near its center is a pocket or receptacle D, Which is preferably formed, where the charactor of the sheet will permit, of an incision extending downwardly, as at E, and thence to one side fiatwise of the sheet, as at e. WVhen,.however, the character of the sheet does not permit of such an incised pocket being conveniently made-for instance, when it is not constructed of layers-then the pocket canbe formed of a superlayer of a per or the like F, Fig. 4,wh1ch is attac ed in any suitable manner along three of its ed es.

lhe urpose of the pocket is to furnish means or reliably holding a ticket or coupon upon which may be marked or imprinted advertising matter or parts of prearranged words or sentences which when obtained can be used for exchange purposes, asare trading-stamps, and at the same time such tickets or coupons are safeguarded against removal by unscrupulous persons without their having to first mutilate the soap barand which is obviously preferable to having them simply wrapped up with the soap, as ordinarily. It may be said that in addition to the aforementioned applications of the invention and where the soap is transparent that advertising or other readin matter can be printed upon the contained s eet for very effective advertising.

It is a parent that changes can be made in and to t e aforedescribed means of carrying my invention into practice without departing from the spirit thereof or sacrificing its advantages.

Having claim as new, Patent, is-

1. As a new article of manufacture, a bar of soa containing asheet of paper or the like, said s eet being erforated adjacent of its edges, substantial y as and-for the purposes described.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a bar of soa containing a sheet of paper or the like, said sheet being provided with a plurality of rows of perforations, located near the edge of the sheet and parallel therewith.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a bar of soap, containing a sheet of paper or the like, said sheet of paper being formed with an integral pocket, adapted to receive a ticket or coupon.

4/ As a new article of manufacture, a bar of soap and a single sheet of paper-or the like and desire to secure by Letters described my invention, what I inclosed in the soap, said sheet of paper being provided with a pocket having an opening on one side of the sheet.

5. The combination with a bar of soap, of

an inclosed sheet of paper, a pocket formed on sa d sheet of paper and a ticket or coupon arranged 1n sald pocket.
