(Cl. 224-26) This invention concerns a carrying case for a score recorder.

According to the invention, there is provided an elongated casing with open end into which a score recording device can be inserted. The casing is preferably made of flexible leather material but parts may be made of sheet plastic, fabric or the like. The casing has pockets at the front in which may be inserted a scoring pencil, sandpaper for sharpening the pencil, identification card, etc. At the rear of the casing is a spring clip covered by flexible sheet material. The casing can be carried by a player on a belt or on a garment pocket, in a position out of the way of the player, while the player is engaged in playing a game. The device carried in the casing may serve to keep score in the game.

it is therefore one object of the invention to provide a carrying case for a game scoring device.

It is another object to provide a carrying case for a game scoring device, the case being provided with a spring clip at one side and a plurality of pockets at the other side.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring to FIGS. 1-4, there is shown an elongated case 10 having a substantially rectangular leather front panel 12, leather rear panel 14, plastic side panels 16, 18 and a plastic bottom panel 20 continuous with panels 16, 18. The top of the case is open. Notches 15, 17 are formed in the upper edges of the front and rear panels. The side and bottom panels are formed of thin sheet material and are sewn together by stitching 30 at their adjoining edges with the panels 12, 14. A further front frame-like panel 32 is provided at the front of the case. This panel has rectangular cutouts 34 and 36. Further parallel lines of vertical stitching 38 and 40 define pockets 39, 41 at the cutouts or openings 34, 36 to receive an identification card 42 and a strip of standpaper 44. Another pocket 45 is formed between stitching 30 and 40 and receives a pencil 46 used :for scoring on the scoring device. The scoring device D is indicated by dotted lines in FIGS. 1 and 2 inserted in the interior 50 of the casing and extending out of the top thereof. The notches and 17 facilitate grasping the device D for removal from the casing.

At the rear panel 14 is secured a clip 60. This clip includes a generally U-shaped leaf spring 62 shown to best advantage in FIG. 5. The spring is bent at the top at 64 and has a curved rear leg 66 and a straight front leg 68. A narrow pocket 70 is formed by a fabric, leather or plastic strip 72 sewn by stitching 73 to the rear panel 14. The straight side 68 of the spring is inserted into 3,091,378 Patented May 28, 1963 this pocket 70. A cover 71 of flexible material shown in FIGS. 2, 3, 4 and 6 covers the curved leg of the spring and has a tongue 75 inserted into the pocket 70. Two outwardly struck prongs 7'6, 78 formed on the straight leg 68 of the spring engage the rear panel and hold the spring in the pocket 70. Inner cover strip 80 of cover 71 is sewn by stitching 8-2 to the outer strip 74 and defines the cover 71 therewith to receive the curved leg 66 of the leaf spring. Tongue 75 extends beyond strip 80. When the spring clip 60 is assembled and mounted on the casing, it has a spring portion which depends at the rear of the casing and permits the easing to be supported on a belt, pocket or other portion of the clothing of a player. The scoring device D carried in the casing, forms no part of the present invention and need not be described here.

The casing 10 enables one to play bowling, golf or other sport while carrying the scoring device in the easing. When required, the device is removed from the casing, marked with the scoring pencil and then both pencil and score recorder are returned to their respective pockets or compartments until required to be used again. Instead of stitching, the panels may be secured by cement, fusing or the like.

The casing is neat, compact, durable, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Instead of plastic or leather parts, other suitable sheet material may be used such as fabric or composition materials.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent rs:

1. Means for carrying a score recorder, comprising an elongated open end casing having rectangular front, rear, side and bottom panels joined together at their adjoining edges, another panel secured to the front panel, said other panel having at least one rectangular opening therein, said other panel being secured to the front panel at spaced parallel lines to define a plurality of pockets for carrying pencil, sandpaper and the like, a thin strip secured at its edges to the rear panel defining another open top pocket thereat, a U-shaped leaf spring having straight and curved legs, the straight leg being inserted in said other pocket, the curved side abutting the outer leg of said strip, and two flexible strips defining a flat pocket receiving said curved leg of the leaf spring, one of the two flexible strips being inserted in said other pocket adjacent said flat leg of the spring, said flat leg having a pair of prongs struck outwardly from the edges thereof and engaging the rear panel to hold the leaf spring in said other pocket.

Means for carrying a score recorder, comprising an elongated open end casing having rectangular front, rear, side and bottom panels joined together at their adjoining edges, another panel secured to the front panel, said other panel having at least one rectangular opening therein, said other panel being secured to the front panel at spaced parallel lines to define a plurality of pockets for carrying pencil, sandpaper and the like, and a U-shaped leaf spring disposed on the rear panel for supporting the casing on an article of clothing, said spring having a curved outer leg covered by a pocket formed by two fabric strips joined together at their edges.

Claims (1)

MEANS FOR CARRYING A SCORE RECORDER, COMPRISING AN ELONGATED OPEN END CASING HAVING RECTANGULAR FRONT, REAR, SIDE AND BOTTOM PANELS JOINED TOGETHER AT THEIR ADJOINING EDGES, ANOTHER PANEL SECURED TO THE FRONT PANEL, SAID OTHER PANEL HAVING AT LEAST ONE RECTANGULAR OPENING THEREIN, SAID OTHER PANEL BEING SECURED TO THE FRONT PANEL AT SPACED PARALLEL LINES TO DEFINE A PLURALITY OF POCKETS FOR CARRYING PENCIL, SANDPAPER AND THE LIKE, AND A U-SHAPED LEAF SPRING DISPOSED ON THE REAR PANEL FOR SUPPORTION THE CASING ON AN ARTICLE OF CLOTHING, SAID SPRING HAVING A CURVED OUTER LEG COVERED BY A POCKET FORMED BY TWO FABRIC STRIPS JOINED TOGETHER AT THERI EDGES.
