A still further object of this invention is the provision of an ear muif which is capable of being attached to a hat and which is adjustable so that it will be readily adapted to any size of hat and to any shape of head of the wearer thereof.

Another important object of this invention is the provision of an ear muif which can be applied to any h'at in a very short space of time and which can be as readily removed therefrom.

Other and further important objects -of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the drawings and specification.

The upper end of the steel strip 14 terminates in a loop 17 which overhangs and is attached to a circular adjustable band 20 preferably made of steely or some similar elastic metal. The*7 loop 17, by means of which the strip 14 is attached to the band 20, is o en at its inner end to permit of its rea y removal from same and is also adapted to be`- slid therealon thereby permitting of an adjustment o the strap 14 and desired.

The strip or band 20 is inserted between the band 22 of the hat 12 and the outside 'of the hat proper and is allowed to drop into the lowest possible position therebetween as is best shown in Fig. 3. The adjustability of the band 20 lis accomplished by havmgeach end thereof provided with an attaching device 32, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, this attaching device bey ing xed to the end of the strip and preferably having a loop therein which provides an opening into which the other end of the stri is adapted to slide. After the band as been positioned and measured to fit the head of the particular wearer, these attaching devices 32 may be clamped down so 4as to securely hold the band in its adjusted position -to conform to they` head of the wearer at all times.

lit will be seen that herein is provided a device which will eilecti-vely protect the ears of the wearer from cold and which can be yeasily applied, in fact can be put on at the same time as the hat and with no additional trouble. In the preferred form the ear mus simply cover the ears of the wearer and press the same close to the head and thereb protect them from cold and Wind. lit Wil also be seen that this device will be assalti eective in maintaining lthe hat of the wearer securely in position when properly applied. y

Further, it will be seen that these improved ear muft's can be readily removed from the hat and conveniently carried in the vest pocket of the wearer without the trouble and inconvenience resultin from the use of the usual bulky and trou lesome spring baud which fits over the head of the wearer of such devices as were hitherto in use. The band 20 can be retained in the hat at all times, being relatively thin and absolutely invisible, and, which, moreover, also acts as a means for retaining the hat in shape.

li am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range Without departing from the principles of this invention, and l therefore'do not purpose limitin the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.

l claim' as my invention: Attaching means for an ear mud comprsing a circular band, a hook member slidably sustained lm said band and havin corrugations at its-ldwer end, an ear muli supporting member having corrugations corresponding to the first mentioned corrugations, and a slidable band embracing said members :for adjustablybinding the corrugated portions thereof together.
